That was one of two Josh Reynolds drops. He duffed a huge 4th down and a huge 3rd down, and now has to walk from Santa Clara back to Michigan.
Dan Campbell was his gambling self, and had opportunities to take the points instead of trying to move the chains, but that’s really an overrated storyline. He’s been doing that all season long, and he stayed true to that formula. You can say it’s the wrong formula, which is fine of course, but nobody who watched the Lions this season should be surprised that he made those decisions.
These were the second half Detroit possessions:
- failed 4th and 2 (drop)
- fumble
- three and out
- failed 4th and 3
- garbage touchdown to at least allow an onside kick
They were outscored 27-7 in the second half. Huge drops, missed opportunities, and a backbreaker of a turnover. San Francisco had a couple of lucky/fluke type plays as well, and Brock Purdy moved the sticks with his feet, which was annoying to watch.

But that’s it for the Niners. They needed come-from-behind performances to beat Green Bay and Detroit on their home field. They’ve been living dangerously and they haven’t passed the eye test. The Chiefs will finish the job that the Packers and Lions couldn’t finish. I’m not kidding. HAMMER the Chiefs moneyline. There is no way that Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are losing to Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan in the Super Bowl. SPAGS is gonna have his boys ready to play. Kansas City is gonna put us out of our misery. It’s gonna suck to see them win another one, but it’s better than watching the Niners win it. It’s the lesser of two evils.
