Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur joked she smelled better than David Beckham and is imitating Cristiano Ronaldo

Ons Jabeur is back in the Wimbledon final and is chasing history to become the first African player to win a Grand Slam title.

Tunisian Jabeur will hope it is third-time lucky in Grand Slam finals when she takes on Marketa Vondrousova in Saturday’s single’s final.

The 28-year-old lost in last year’s final to Elena Rybakina, but her revenge tour has been in full swing in 2023.

Not only has she dumped out the defending champion, but also defeated Grand Slam winners Bianca Andreescu, Petra Kvitova and Aryna Sabalenka along the way.

Jabeur has done it all with a smile on her face and entertaining the crowds along the way.

She is one of the most popular players on tour, known as ‘Aunt Ons’ to some, while she featured heavily in the Netflix Break Point documentary that boosted her profile.

Her fancy footwork is something that has certainly caught the attention of fans, often volleying or heading the ball during matches.

“I played a lot of football on grass, I love football so much,” Jabeur said earlier in the tournament.

“It’s amazing to come back here, the grass is so beautiful. I love connecting with the nature and seeing all the flowers everywhere.

“Maybe I pretend to be Cristiano Ronaldo playing here!”

The Tunisian even got to meet David Beckham during the tournament, with the pair sharing a few words together and a hug.

“He’s an unbelievable player. I’m a fan of David Beckham, even more after meeting him.

When asked if he smelled nice, she replied: “I think I smelled better, personally.”

Speaking about the meeting on court, she added: “It’s been a pleasure meeting him. He’s such a nice guy and very polite. I’m glad my husband let me just give him a hug.”

Jabeur has endured a tough run to get to the final and she is sure to have the overwhelming support on Centre Court on Saturday.

Her opponent is ranked 42nd in the world, becoming the first unseeded player to reach the Wimbledon final since Billie Jean King in 1963.

“I think a final is a final,” Jabeur said. “You’re playing someone, Grand Slam champion or not. I think it’s going to be very difficult.

“It can happen for both. Whoever could handle more the emotions, whoever could be more ready on the court, will definitely win that match.

“I want to make my path worth it, winning against all these Grand Slam champions to be in the final. Yeah, I’m going full in, and hopefully this time it will work.”
