Harry Cobden teams up with Anthony Honeyball for this Mares’ Handicap Hurdle with the 6-year-old FORTUNA LIGNA. She was rewarded for her consistency last term, by finally getting off the mark at the eighth attempt when making all to land the odds at this venue on her final start of the campaign.

She showed a really willing attitude on that occasion, and was all heart in the finish. Given the way she raced on that occasion, and the manner in which she stayed on strongly on her penultimate start over the similar trip of around 2m4f, suggests she is more than ready to move up in distance.

Stepping up in trip to an extended 2m7f looks ideal and should bring all her stamina into play. Cut in the ground is perfect, and off a mark of 108 she should have a lot more to offer over a trip which can see her flourish.

With winning course form in the book, she looks the one to side with in this encounter.

Chepstow 3.15 – Moonlighter

Kim Bailey has his string in fine fettle at present, and MOONLIGHTER makes plenty of appeal on seasonal reappearance. Lightly-raced as a 10-year-old, he boasts winning course and distance form, enjoys soft ground, and has a good record when fresh.

So I think connections will quietly be confident that this veteran can serve it up to the younger legs. There is plenty of rain around at the moment, so underfoot conditions should be absolutely spot on for him. From a handicapping perspective, a mark of 123 looks far from beyond him; his last win was off only 2lb lower, and he was rated 148 at peak, so I can’t see weights and measures being an issue in these circumstances.

Ciaran Gethings takes the ride on this enigmatic sort who should have everything in his favour in order to produce his best form, so the combination get the nod from me in this trappy assignment.

Chepstow 3.45 – Madaket

The Philip Hobbs and Johnson Whitecombination is absolutely flourishing, and the unexposed MADAKET is one to take note of on Handicap debut.

The yard are operating at around a 28% strike-rate for October, and Madaket makes plenty of appeal delving into the Handicap ranks. The 5-year-old has looked outpaced in all three starts to date over the minimum trip, but has shaped like an individual who will really thrive when presented with a proper test of stamina.

Upped in trip here for the first time to an extended 2m3f, I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a lot more improvement in the locker, especially when you consider the aforementioned form of the yard and an opening mark of 102, which in my view leaves plenty of upside.

Michael Nolan takes the ride on this lightly-raced sort I think the combination have solid each-way claims.
