‘Spewed it’ – Tony Bellew reacts to Gervonta Davis KOing Ryan Garcia with brutal body shot

Tony Bellew believes Ryan Garcia ‘spewed it’ by not getting up from Gervonta Davis’ brutal body shot on Saturday night.

Garcia survived a knockdown in round two, bouncing right back up, but following a crushing body shot in round seven, he was unable to continue and the referee waved off the action.

Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew’s initial assessment was that Garcia should have risen, as he said on Twitter: “Spewed it!

“Yes they really hurt but you’ve gotta rise! Do it once and you’ll do it again!”

Bellew went on to praise both Garcia and Davis, saying: “The attributes Garcia has are amazing!

“He’s the quickest and one of the biggest fighters in the division yet he lets people get to him!

“If he uses them gifts he has properly then I swear he’d be almost impossible to beat! Amir had similar attributes! Stay away and box!

“Tank Davis is the biggest puncher the lighter weight divisions have seen since Naseem Hamed in my honest opinion!

“Tank was given good advice in the corner and that played a big factor!

“The fights that can be made for Tank are mouthwatering! Shakur, Loma, Haney etc etc!”

As for Garcia’s explanation for why he could not continue with the fight in round seven, he said in his post-fight interview: “He caught me with a good body shot and I just couldn’t recover.

“I couldn’t breathe. I just couldn’t get up…

“Tank is a great fighter. I take my hat off to him. We talked a lot of s***, but it’s all love at the end of the day.

“I was honoured to be in the ring with a great fighter and I respect him a lot.”
