Opening college football betting lines, odds and spreads for Week 4 of the CFB season: Can Colorado stay hot?

The Colorado Buffaloes

Three weeks of the 2023 college football season are in the books. We have already witnessed a significant upset (Texas over Alabama) a crucial result in SEC positioning (Florida over Tennessee) and an undefeated sensation that is stealing headlines throughout the nation (Colorado).

Now it’s time to turn our attention to Week 4. This slate is the best one of the season to date, headlined by Florida State vs Clemson, Ole Miss vs Alabama, Colorado vs Oregon and Ohio State vs Note Dame. The opening lines were released at most sportsbooks on Sunday, so let’s take a look at these openers and give our first impressions.

Best early bets for NCAAF Week 4

Alabama -6.5 (-110) over Ole Miss

When you can give less than a touchdown with Alabama, it’s an opportunity that should be taken. Yes the Crimson Tide are dealing with a quarterback controversy, but I will trust head coach Nick Saban to make the right decision and give his team the best chance to win – both on Saturday and moving forward throughout the season. At some point the Tide are going to wake up from their early-season slumber; that time could be now. Ole Miss has lost 7 straight in the head-to-head series, including by 21 points the last time it visited Tuscaloosa.

Colorado +19.5 (-110) vs Oregon

The sportsbooks are obviously praying for the public to jump on Colorado by making this number so huge. Unfortunately for them, I think they are going to pay for it in the form of big losses. Jumping on it is exactly what I’m going to do before the number shrinks. Two-way star Travis Hunter is probably out, but he also missed much of the game against Colorado State and the Buffaloes still came back to win. It is true that Oregon is much better than Colorado State, which is why head coach Deion Sanders’ squad may not be undefeated by the end of Week 4. It should, however, do enough to cover.

Wake Forest -7 (-110) vs Georgia Tech

Playing at home against one of the weakest teams in the ACC, Wake Forest should be able to win this game by multiple possessions. Sam Hartman has taken his talents to Notre Dame, but the Demon Deacons have gotten some strong quarterback play from Mitch Griffis (837 yards and 8 touchdowns, although he has been picked off 3 times). Whereas the Deacons are undefeated, the Yellow Jackets are 1-2 with a bad loss to Louisville and a blowout at the hands of Ole Miss last weekend.
