‘Not impressed’ – Conor Benn slams Chris Eubank Jr’s knockout win over Liam Smith and suggests injury played key part as he calls for fight next

Conor Benn wants to fight Chris Eubank Jr next after he knocked out Liam Smith in their rematch.

Eubank put in a punch perfect performance to drop Smith twice on his way to a tenth-round stoppage victory on Saturday night.

This meant that Eubank got revenge over Smith who knocked him out in the fourth round of their first fight earlier this year.

After the bout, Eubank called out Conor Benn, with the pair having been previously scheduled to fight in October last year, but it was cancelled after Benn failed two drugs tests.

Since then, Benn has been embroiled in this scandal, but recently he has been plotting his return to the ring and Eubank could be a potential option if he is fully cleared to fight again.

Benn was at ringside to watch Eubank’s latest victory and when asked about the performance, he replied: “Smith made him look good. What, it takes you ten rounds to dispatch of someone who’s got a broken leg? I’m not really impressed.”

Responding to Eubank’s call-out, Benn said: “Eubank, let’s get it on, there’s unfinished business there.

“You could definitely see that it was an injury, that’s all that was. 100 per cent, you could tell Smith weren’t himself. His shots weren’t coming off, he weren’t able to get out the way of the shots. And that’s all that was.

“I didn’t think it was an impressive performance. If you’ve got a wounded man in there, take hold of them, get them out of there. If I’ve got someone injured in front of me who can’t throw back, they ain’t seeing the end of the round. That’s it.

“He looked better than he has done previously, but it weren’t all that. Smith made him look good tonight.

“I’d get hold of him [Eubank] within four, I’d put it on him straightaway.”

When asked about a future clash with Eubank, Benn replied: “We can do that next, no problem.

“If the public want it then I’ll come up to 160lbs no problem, 147lbs, 154lbs, 160lbs, no problem, I’ll come up.”

Benn was then questioned as to whether he could fight Eubank before the end of the year and he responded: “100 per cent.”

Benn concluded by posting on social media: “Not Impressed, it’s curtains in four rounds if you fight me at 160lbs.”
