NFL DFS Tournament Takes: Week 8 (Fantasy Football)

Footclan, it is an absolute honor and privilege to be able to share my tournament thoughts with you on a weekly basis this season. My goal is to give you an extra resource to use when creating your lineups. I usually play one or two hand-built lineups every week and I’ve had much success in my career playing that way. Each week I’ll discuss my favorite stacks to utilize in large-field tournaments, ways to gain leverage on the field, and any other slate-specific thoughts.

In Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season, I won the Milly Maker and several other six-figure contests on DraftKings. I’ve also been to five live finals where I have competed against some of the best players in the industry. I’m so excited to be able to help you gain an advantage and win some big money this year!

We have reached the season’s midway point, and if you haven’t hit big yet, keep your head up because we’ve got plenty of game left. This slate brings us a similar challenge, much like we’ve seen the last couple of weeks, with not a single game projected to reach the 50-point mark. However, adapting to the current environment is key, and while maintaining consistency in your approach is crucial, it’s equally important to experiment with new strategies. So, let’s explore what this week has in store.

Slate Specific Thoughts

Usually, I like to cover my favorite game of the week, but I need to be honest here, I don’t have one. It looks like a jumbled mess out there and I don’t want to mislead you. So, we’re just going to have to switch it up a bit this week.

Tier 1

  • Patriots @ Dolphins (O/U 47)
  • Rams @ Cowboys (O/U 45.5)
  • Chiefs @ Broncos (O/U 46)

If I was choosing one of these games as my “favorite”, I’d probably roll with the Patriots/Dolphins divisional matchup, but I can’t sit here and tell you that I love it. Our roster percentage projections have Kendrick Bourne up around 17% ownership and he looks like a decent play at $4,700. On the Dolphins side, Tyreek Hill is now the most expensive player on the slate at $9,500 and while I think he can have a great game I just don’t think this is the game to pay up for him. Even Raheem Mostert is significantly priced up now at $7,700 so I just don’t see the need to reach for him.

Cooper Kupp is coming off a down week and although he’s still expensive at $9,000, it doesn’t look like he’ll be carrying much ownership. I don’t know what to make of the Cowboys’ offense, but I guess if I had to choose one, CeeDee Lamb at $7,600 is not a bad option although I’d prefer Ja’Marr Chase and AJ Brown at a similar price.

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are always in play, but it looks like Denver will be covered in snow this weekend so I’m probably avoiding the passing game on both sides. With that said, one of my favorite running backs on the slate is in this tier, we’ll get to him shortly.
