Jalen Carter Calls Self-Checkout Incident “Probably Just a Misunderstanding”

Jalen Carter was asked about the shoplifting incident that may or may not have occurred earlier in the week. He characterized it as a “misunderstanding,” according to EJ Smith at the Inky:

Eagles rookie Jalen Carter said Friday that claims that he and a woman with him stole merchandise from a Center City Target store earlier this week were “probably just a misunderstanding.”

According to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, the two were addressed by a Target employee and eventually by the police. Carter wasn’t detained at the scene and there was no police report filed from the incident.

Rumblings about the incident involving the first-round defensive tackle first surfaced on social media on Monday. The woman with Carter was said to have put items into her shopping bags without scanning them before Carter grabbed the bags to leave the store.

“It was probably just a misunderstanding,” said Carter, 22. “I don’t really know too much about it.”

Anyone else find this quote from Carter kind of funny? Like bro you were there. How do you not really know much about it?

Jalen’s gotta fire his PR team. They stink. He’s already had four days to come up with something and that’s the best they could do? They already bought you time from answering at your charity event. You knew this question was coming. “I don’t really know much about it.” That’s the best you got?

Everyone with a brain understands that self-checkout kiosks suck.* Half the time they break or malfunction and you’re left looking for a person who is on the other side of the store handling another one on the fritz. I think anyone who’s ever went to self-checkout has unknowingly stole something. I mean we’re talking about Target, it’s not like he went into Louis Vuitton and tried to steal a purse. No harm, no foul. But “I don’t really know much about it.” I mean come on. Get some PR people with a brain around you.

*Kinkead: the worst is at the grocery store when the scale isn’t working properly. “Please place your item in the bag.” Motherfucker I just put it in the bag.
