Footage captures Carlos Alcaraz’s brilliant reaction to journalists wearing matching bucket hats in Wimbledon press conference

Carlos Alcaraz loved how the Spanish journalists at Wimbledon greeted him after winning the title on Sunday.

Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller to win his first Wimbledon title.

The 20-year-old is now a two-time Grand Slam winner and dethroned Djokovic’s reign at the All England Club.

The seven-time champion had not lost on Centre Court for a decade and had been going for his fifth title in a row.

Alcaraz was in high spirits as he entered his press conference to a round of applause from the awaiting journalists.

As he took a sip of water, he noticed three Spanish reporters sitting in the front row with all of them sporting his now iconic bucket hat.

Alcaraz pumped his fist in the air in delight.

Nacho Albarran from Diario AS, who was one of the reporters wearing the hat, said that Alcaraz told him it was ‘the key of his success in the tournament’.

The Nike hats – priced at £27.95 – are now completely sold out on their website.

Alcaraz admitted that beating Djokovic to win Wimbledon was the ‘happiest moment of my life’.

He said: “Beating Novak at his best, on this stage, making history, being the guy to beat him after 10 years unbeaten on that court, is amazing for me.

“It’s something that I will never forget, that’s for sure.”

Alcaraz added that winning the Grand Slam was also a ‘special moment’ for his family and people around him.

He said: “I started playing tennis thanks to my dad. [He is a] really huge fan of tennis. I mean, he was watching tennis before I was born. It’s crazy. His whole life, it’s about tennis.

“I think for them, watching [their] kid making history, lifting the trophy, winning Wimbledon, is something incredible for them.

“For me to have them there, giving them a big hug, it’s something that I will never forget. I hope to have a photo from that moment, because I’m going to keep forever.”
