Floyd Mayweather told opponent to ‘stop crying and fight’ midway through super-lightweight debut

Floyd Mayweather was never a big knockout artist, but he did have the ability to wear his opponents down both mentally and physically.

In 2004, having already conquered the super featherweight and lightweight divisions, Mayweather made the move up to 140lbs.

He came up against DeMarcus Corley who was a former world champion at the weight and a seasoned operator, coming off the back of a split decision loss against Zab Judah.

But, in typical Mayweather fashion, he made it look easy, comfortably out-boxing Corley throughout.

At one point in the fight Mayweather even shouted at his opponent: “Stop crying.

“Stop crying and fight, come on. Stop crying and fight.”

Mayweather subsequently went on to knock Corley down twice on his way to an unanimous decision victory and two fights later he would become super lightweight world champion, beating the late, great Arturo Gatti.

It could be argued he was yet to enter his prime, with more big-name fights to come, including Oscar de la Hoya (2007), Shane Mosley (2010) and Canelo Alvarez (2013) among others.

Today, Mayweather is retired from professional boxing, having put together a record of 50-0, but he still pops up every once in a while to show off his wealth or have an exhibition fight.

He has fought Japanese MMA fighters, YouTubers in Logan Paul and Deji, a reality TV star and a former sparring partner in exhibitions since retiring.

Next up on the lucrative retirement circuit, the 46-year-old will take on the son of former crime boss, John Gotti, who is 2-0 as a boxer and has experience as an MMA fighter.
