Monday – Monday Punday, Fantasy Studs & Duds

Jason is back and ready to celebrate the semi-final week! It was a wild week of football, and Andy, Mike, and Jason start it off with getting sophisticated.

Fantasy Studs

Joe Burrow was exquisite and can play with a chip on his shoulder. With such a deep receiving corps, this team should lead their division for a long time. Dak was also back, and Josh Allen was highly efficient. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes also were classic MVP-Esque QBs. On to the RB studs highlighted by Justin Jackson taking over for Austin Ekeler. Jackson was one of the best spot starts the guys have seen in a long time. Rex Burkhead also went nuclear, Damien Harris was excellent, and Chase Edmonds had a huge game. Rashad Penny was a pleasant surprise and has a great matchup next week. The WR studs start with the Bengals pass catchers, Higgins and Chase, who were on fire. Davante Adams and AJ Brown were big week winners, and Amon-Ra St. Brown is ending the year on fire. Diggs, Cooper, and Deebo were also consistent. With the TEs, Mark Andrews is unstoppable, the Doctor (Dalton Schultz) worked on a weekend, and Gerald Everett was a fabulous fill-in.

Fantasy Duds

This week, Matt Stafford was a rough start, and the Rams running game saved the team. Melvin Gordon was horrid, much to Owl’s chagrin. Saquon also did nothing. WR-wise, Tyreek Hill single-handedly cost many people their weeks, Keenan Allen was disappointing, and Tyler Lockett is still willing and able to break your heart. Other duds include CeeDee Lamb, Terry McLaurin, and DJ Moore. This week, George Kittle, Gronk, and Dallas Goedert were disappointing TEs, but all three have good matchups next week.

Farewell to Owl after tonight’s matchup. He has had a good run.

Tuesday – Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire, Waivers & Streamers

Congratulations to Andy, riding to the championship on the shoulders of the Miami defense!

Monday Night Recap

As Mike mentioned, there was a football game after the immediate pick-six last night, although there is little to reflect on. Alvin Kamara had a lousy game coupled with the performance of a third-string QB. The Myles Gaskin experiment seems over as Duke Johnson looked great, and Jaylen Waddle also looked fantastic.

Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire

The segment this week is focused on Week 17 and the championship week. The first name to discuss is Tyler Boyd. He has snuck into the top 12 lately, and the defense has been forgetting about him. Downfield shots have been coming for him, and against Kansas City, he might get another, with the defense focusing on Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Jason, however, would bet against this as the Kansas City defense is on fire. Next up is the Jets RB, Michael Carter. After playing Jacksonville last week, Jason says smoke looking towards this week. You should pivot from Carter on Sunday against a Tampa Bay defense coupled with a lack of targets. Mike sees a little more fire, if only for the opportunity for volume.

Waivers

Starting off with WRs, double-check if any of these guys are available – Amon-Ra St. Brown and Antonio Brown. Going deeper, Isaiah McKenzie for the Buffalo Bills slid right in last week and has a great matchup this Sunday. Andy’s only concern is the team might not need much from him. Mike reminds us that more players will be put on the COVID list, so add options to your roster. Also, target the backup RBs of your opponents. Make sure you can pivot without panic. Laquon Treadwell and Zay Jones are deep targets as well. RB wise, if Ronald Jones is available, he must be picked up. Ke’Shawn Vaughn is also in play, and Boston Scott is Jason’s priority pickup. If you want guaranteed touches, Andy brings up Rex Burkhead and Dare Ogunbowale and also suggests monitoring the San Francisco running game to see who starts for the Niners. TE options will be needed this week as well, and Jason leads with Gerald Everett here in a good matchup. Cole Kmet is another option, and Foster Moreau with Waller still out. Looking at defenses, consider Chicago against the Giants, Carolina, Cleveland, and Indy if they get certain defensive pieces back.

Streamers

With the possibility of Trey Lance starting fresh in everyone’s mind, Andy plays a game with the streaming segment. We call it “Trey or Nay?” They would start Trey over Carson Wentz and Tua. QBs to start over Trey Lance include Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, and Kyler.

Wednesday – Quick Question, Buy or Sell, Mailbag

After discussing the Emmy award-winning lighting on set, Andy, Mike, and Jason start with a quick question – how do they start off-season research? Jason likes to start with a couple of deep dives into specific neglected topics over the year. After Mike’s big nap, he likes to watch college tape to check out the new crop of rookies. Andy mentions the classic TRUTH episodes to analyze players and their performance from the season. Look for those episodes after the season ends.

Buy or Sell

The guys start the segment with Keenan Allen. Is he a top 15 WR this week? Andy must sell this based on statistical trends and Denver’s defensive prowess, and Jason agrees. Mike begrudgingly Buys this. Next, will Hunter Renfrow have at least five receptions against Indy? Renfrow’s targets have diminished lately; however, Mike buys that he can get back to that target share. Now to Cordarrelle Patterson – will he be a top 24 RB against an intriguing Buffalo defense? Mike sells this; he believes that Patterson’s body might be starting to give up after a long season.

News

The NFL has reduced the length of Covid quarantine for players to five days, which changes the landscape moving forward. Mike reminds you to have options on your roster.

Mailbag

The guys jump into the mailbag, and the first question deals with playing Kyler Murray or Joe Burrow. It is hard to bench Burrow after a massive week from him and Kyler being subpar lately. However, Burrow’s matchup this week is nowhere near as good as last week. With that info, both Mike and Andy go with Kyler. After Mike admits he is the best at the Madden video game – RIP John Madden –  the guys tackle a Rashaad Penny versus Darrel Williams question. Both Jason and Andy are going Penny here. Two flex questions follow with Cordarrelle Patterson or Jaylon Waddle and Tyler Lockett or Justin Fields in a super flex league. The guys pick Waddle and Fields. In a TE query, should you start Gerald Everett or Hunter Henry this week? Everett is the consensus pick here.

Thursday – Never Not Working, Fantasy Forecast, Starts of the Week, Boom Boom Kicker

It’s Thursday, and it’s not football time! It is however a jam-packed show today with tons of matchups. As we commit to the tilt with Andy, the guys begin.

Never not Working

This week the guys are looking towards the future and players whose outlooks will change drastically from what they are now. Starting with the RBs, Jason suggests looking at the injured guys first – JK Dobbins, Travis Etienne, and Chris Carson. Ke’Shawn Vaughn is a big shot in the dark here but worth a try. At WR, monitor Elijah Moore, Calvin Ridley, Kadarius Toney, and Gabriel Davis. QB wise, keep an eye on Deshaun Watson since we have no idea how that situation will pan out.

Fantasy Forecast

The guys start the forecast with the Atlanta Falcons playing the Buffalo Bills. No one is starting Matt Ryan, but there is concern surrounding Cordarrelle Patterson, whose body is beginning to slow down. Obviously start Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, and Andy likes Kyle Pitts too. Next up, the Giants take on the Bears in Chicago. Outside David Montgomery, Jason feels there might not be any other options. Mike is still playing Darnell Mooney. The Chiefs head to Cincinnati to play the Bengals in what should be a great game. Mike reminds us not to be tricked by Joe Burrow and his insane totals last week in a fantastic matchup. That being said, you are playing Higgins and Chase, as well as Joe Mixon. Chiefs-wise, if CEH is out, Darrel Williams is a start in addition to the other Kansas City studs. Miami heads to Tennessee to take on the Titans in Andy’s “Almost Upset of the Week.” Against Miami’s stout defense, Mike is hoping to avoid D’Onta Foreman. Other than Waddle and AJ Brown, this game might be disappointing for fantasy. The Raiders head east to take on the Colts, and the guys expect Carson Wentz to be back for this game with the new COVID rules. If it is not Wentz, Pittman is off the table, and your only option is Jonathan Taylor. Andy likes Josh Jacobs for Vegas, as well as Hunter Renfrow.

Jacksonville gets to fly to New England to play the Pats. Happy Holidays Trevor Lawrence. There are really no Jags to start; Ogunbowale is a possibility in a pinch. Damien Harris is a go on the Patriots side, and you could take a shot on a TD from Hunter Henry. Tampa Bay plays the New York Jets in the next matchup. This is the type of game where you might not even need Tom Brady, so he is actually a riskier start than usual. Gronk, Antonio Brown, and Ronald Jones are starts. On the Jets side, Michael Carter is a possibility. Finally, the Eagles take on the Washington Football Team in an NFC East battle. Boston Scott is your last RB standing for Philly, and he is a start along with Dallas Goedert. Terry McLaurin is a sit after multiple down weeks.

Starts of the Week

Andy is starting Jalen Hurts, Ronald Jones, OBJ, and Gronk this week. Jason likes Matthew Stafford, Rashaad Penny, and Dawson Knox. Finally, Mike is starting Trey Lance (shocking), AJ Dillon, and Foster Moreau.

Friday – FootClan Friday, Fantasy Forecast, Fantasy Faceoff & Wheel of Shame

It’s #FootclanTitle time!

News

AJ Brown did not practice, but it was reported as precautionary. Conversely, Antonio Brown also did not practice, which may turn into something. Mike Evans returned to practice but is still questionable, and Lamar Jackson does not look like he will play this week. Especially in the middle of all the COVID and injury confusion, remember to tune in to Matthew Betz and his Injury Blitz podcast for the latest news as you tinker with those lineups.

Fantasy Forecast

The second half of the forecast starts with the Rams at the Ravens. Target the Baltimore defense through the air in starting your Los Angeles studs. Tyler Huntley is in play for Baltimore with his running upside. Say no thank you to the Baltimore RBs, and on the other side, Sony Michel could have a great week. Next up is an AFC West battle between the Broncos and the Chargers. Los Angeles gets an abundance of players back from COVID, so you are starting Herbert and his weapons. On the Denver side, “Melvonte” (Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams) are solid options . The Texans head west to play the Niners in what might be a battle of rookie QBs. Trey Lance is Mike’s start of the week, but make sure to have a pivot option available. Sexy Rexy (Rex Burkhead) is a possible volume play if needed but be cautious with Brandin Cooks, who is freshly back from COVID. RBs against the Texans have a great matchup, so look at Elijah Mitchell or Jeff Wilson. Deebo and Kittle are must starts per usual. Arizona heads to Dallas for an NFC battle. Jason foresees more passing than rushing for the Cowboys, so play Lamb and Cooper. The Doctor (Dalton Schultz) is also startable. On the other side of the ball, Zach Ertz is a strong start, James Conner is a game-time decision, and Chase Edmonds is a good play.

Carolina plays New Orleans in an extremely low over/under. Taysom Hill is back from COVID, so start with caution, and Alvin Kamara can be started. Sam Darnold is starting for Carolina, which could be slightly better for DJ Moore. The Detroit Lions sans Jared Goff takes on the Seattle Seahawks in the next matchup. Mike thinks this could give forth fantasy goodness with two bad defenses. D’Andre Swift should have a good game and Amon-Ra St. Brown has been on fire no matter the QB. Tyler Lockett is the favorite WR on the Seahawks side. The Vikings play the Packers in the Sunday night game, with QB Sean Mannion starting in place of Cousins. Start your Green Bay studs, even with the weather and game script. With MVS back, Andy is staying away from Lazard. Minnesota-wise, besides Justin Jefferson, steer clear of the pass catchers. Finally, on Monday night the Browns take on the Steelers in a classic AFC North matchup. You should wear a blindfold to watch this game. Diontae, Najee, and Chubb are locked into your lineups, and besides that, you are probably not touching this game.

The guys end the show with their final DraftKings lineup of the season, and Andy finally gets to spins the Wheel of Shame! Bring home those championships FootClan!
