Premier League title, final Champions League spot, Europa League place and relegation battle to be decided on final day – 2021/22 campaign set for a thrilling finish

We are into the final week of the 2021/22 Premier League season and there is still everything to play for.

The title will be decided on the last day, the final Champions League spot is up for grabs, the race for the Europa League is still on AND one of three teams could be relegated.

Will it be Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola lifting the title on Sunday?

There has never been a campaign in which everything is still to play for on the final day, which shows how unique this season has been.

But who is involved in the respective battles? talkSPORT.com has a look at what could happen in the final week…

How the Premier League table looks going into the final few games

Title race

The Premier League title race between Manchester City and Liverpool will be decided on the final day after the Reds’ 2-1 win over Southampton on Tuesday night.

This is set to be the ninth time in which the Premier League champion is crowned on the last day of the campaign.

Both sides, led by Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, have pushed each other throughout the campaign and we are set for a thrilling finale.

Defending champions City are one point ahead of the Reds – if they beat Aston Villa, they will win their fourth title in the last five years.

But if they draw and the Reds win, Liverpool will be crowned champions for the second time in three campaigns.

Liverpool have to win to stand any chance of taking the title from the Citizens, while a draw at home to Wolves and a Villa victory would hand Guardiola’s side the trophy on goal difference.

Final Champions League place

On Sunday, Tottenham and Arsenal are set to battle it out for the final Champions League place.

Spurs are currently two points ahead of the Gunners and face already-relegated Norwich at Carrow Road.

It is pretty simple for Spurs – if they win, they will claim fourth.

Even a draw, barring a 16-goal swing, would be enough for Antonio Conte’s side.

Meanwhile, after back-to-back defeats for Arsenal against Spurs and Newcastle, their fate isn’t in their hands.

All they can do is beat Everton and hope Norwich can win just their sixth league game this year.

In truth, it seems unlikely, but pressure is a funny thing, and all of that expectation could weigh the Spurs players down.

Last Europa League spot

Manchester United currently sit in sixth place, which would be their lowest finish in the Premier League since the 2018/19 campaign.

But things could get a whole lot worse for the Red Devils.

West Ham are two points behind Ralf Rangnick’s side, heading into the last day.

If the Irons beat Brighton, they can still finish sixth and condemn the Red Devils to their worst year since 2013/14, in which David Moyes ironically started as the manager at Old Trafford.

West Ham have a better goal difference, so if United draw or lose against Crystal Palace and the Irons win, they will be playing Europa Conference League football next year.

And given Rangnick’s side have only won two of their last eight, victory is certainly not guaranteed, and they might need a favour from Graham Potter.

Third relegated team

The relegation battle is slightly more complicated than anything else because Everton and Burnley have two games left, while Leeds have one.

On Thursday, the Toffees can seal their place in the Premier League with a victory over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.

Any other result for Frank Lampard’s side would see their fate decided on Sunday instead.

Burnley also play on Thursday against Aston Villa – if they win, the Clarets will move out of the drop zone two points clear of Leeds.

A draw would also see Burnley climb out of the final relegation spot due to their superior goal difference.

But a defeat would leave them in 18th heading into the final day.

From there, pretty much anything could happen as all three teams could still go down.

However, if they were to all win their respective fixtures, Burnley would be relegated.

But those games in hand for the Toffees and the Clarets could put Leeds in deep trouble on the final day.
