Conor McGregor laughs as he claims Kamaru Usman ‘leaned his way to death’ in KO loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 278

As he often does, Conor McGregor tweeted along as UFC took place at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City on Saturday night.

The former dual-weight champion couldn’t resist taking a pop at Khabib Nurmagomedov during UFC 287 after watching Jose Aldo lose on the undercard, but saved most of his comments for the main event.

Long-time welterweight champion Kamaru Usman appeared to be coasting to victory against Leon Edwards until the Englishman landed a huge head kick knockout in the fifth and final round.

After ‘Rocky’ shocked the world with his come-from-behind victory at UFC 278, ‘Notorious’ suggested that Usman was the master of his own downfall in his failed title defence.

McGregor tweeted: “Not even a relatively high kick. Fully leaned into his own death. One leaned his way to victory. Another leaned his way to death. Crazy sport, I love!”

Prior to that, the 34-year-old couldn’t resist revelling in the defeat of the man he has gone back and forth with on social media throughout the years.

“Hahahahahhhahajaaj,” McGregor wrote. Usman gonna come out saying he from Pluto after that smack hahah Marty green pants from Pluto

“Mi no lika the boi no sleep dem man hahahaha t*** got t***ted.”

Between posts mocking Usman, ‘Mystic Mac’ did take time to congratulate Edwards who just so happens to be managed by the same team as the Irishman.

“Just like that baby, what a game! Huge congrats Paradigm Sports and Leon Edwards! ANOTHER CHAMPION,” McGregor continued.

“An amazing scene to witness! Huge congrats Leon! A real good, solid and dedicated mixed martial artist! The uk’s second only ufc champion! Incredible! Congrats mate!”

Before the UFC 278 main event even got going, McGregor made clear he’d ‘love a crack’ at the welterweight title after previously claiming he wants to compete for the 170lb strap when he returns to action.

During his time away from the sport due to injury, McGregor has seriously bulked up and now sees himself competing at welterweight moving forward.

Despite the fact many people believed he is undersized for the division; the UFC superstar is confident he can win the title at the weight class and become the first three-weight champion in UFC history.

First things first, McGregor needs to get back in the Octagon for the first time since July 2021 and improve the form that has seen him win just one fight since 2016.
