Best Bets Today: Top Picks from Wednesday’s Sports Slate

Our sports betting experts offer up their top picks and best bets for today’s action.

We’re down to two games on Wednesday’s NBA schedule. With plenty of action elsewhere, we round up today’s best bets from the NHL, PGA Tour, NFL draft, and MLB to flush out our Wednesday betting card.

Here are today’s best bets for Wednesday, April 27.

Today’s Best Bets

  • NBA: DeMar DeRozan Over 28.5 points (-125 via DraftKings Sportsbook) ★★★★
  • MLB: Shohei Ohtani Over 6.5 strikeouts (+105 via Caesars Sportsbook) ★★★★★
  • NHL: Jack Eichel Over 3.5 shots (+105 via DraftKings) ★★★
  • PGA Tour: Tony Finau top-5 finish at the Mexico Open (+600 via DraftKings)
  • NFL draft: First linebacker selected – Quay Walker (+650 via FanDuel Sportsbook) ★★★

Wednesday’s NBA Best Bet

DeRozan Over 28.5 points (-125)

This one seems obvious and I’m probably going to get in trouble because it doesn’t appear I’m being creative enough. With that being said, the numbers simply do not lie here. When LaVine does not play, DeRozan is the man for Chicago.

In the minutes DeRozan has played without LaVine, he’s averaging a whopping 32.6 points per 36 minutes. That’s an increase of 4.8 points per 36, and it’s worth noting he takes about 3.9 more shots on average as well. He may only have one game of 29 or more points in this series, but he’s going to be called upon here to take all the shots here for Chicago and play upwards of 40 minutes. He’s been a scoring machine all year and he needs to be backed.

Wednesday’s MLB Best Bet

Ohtani Over 6.5 strikeouts (+105)

Shohei Ohtani has exceeded this total in two of his three starts this season. He struck out a season-high 12 batters on just 81 pitches against the rival Houston Astros in his last start a week ago. On Wednesday night against the Cleveland Guardians, I expect Ohtani to go over the total of 6.5. He currently has an extremely high K/9 of 16.33.

Wednesday’s NHL Best Bet

Eichel Over 3.5 shots (+105)

Las Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel came up short in three straight games while logging five total shots prior to firing five on net Tuesday. It was an unusual stretch for him, as the forward had recorded four-plus shots on goal in eight straight games and 11 of 12 before that contest.

The three-time All-Star has racked up four-plus shots on goal in 22 of 32 games in 2021-22 (69%) and in 14 of 17 road games (82%), including 10 straight. Take him at plus odds to do that again with Vegas’ season on the line.

Wednesday’s PGA Tour Best Bet

Finau top-5 finish (+600)

We are back at it again! There is no way to avoid Tony Finau, he just keeps you coming back for more. In all seriousness, Finau has the potential to play extremely well in the Mexico Open.

Finau is averaging 0.93 SG: tee-to-green on the season and possesses the driving distance to win this tournament. In addition to the statistics, Finau’s price to finish within the top five at DraftKings offers a great opportunity for price shopping. FanDuel Sportsbook is offering Finau at +410 to finish inside the top five this week, while DraftKings is offering almost two dollars more at +600.

Wednesday’s NFL Draft Best Bet

Walker to be the first linebacker drafted (+650)

The heavy odds-on favorite to be selected as the first linebacker off the board is Utah’s Devin Lloyd. He’s a massive favorite at -425 at DraftKings. With the limited return that would present, I see no sense in wasting our time betting on Lloyd.

If we want to lob a bomb – and it does seem the linebacker position is often an area where surprise evaluations develop during the draft – let’s go with Quay Walker, Georgia teammate of fellow first-LB candidate Nakobe Dean (+600). Teams might look at Walker’s late arrival to a starting role and his NFL-caliber size relative to the other top picks at the position and be enthralled by the potential growth he has yet to realize. It’s more of a dart throw, but it’s interesting nevertheless.
