Thunder Release Former First-Round Pick Justin Jackson

On Monday, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced that theyve waived former college standout Justin Jackson after acquiring him from the Dallas Mavericks back in November.

The former 15th overall pick (2017) appeared in 33 games with the Thunder, averaging 7.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 16.5 minutes per game.

In what’s just his fourth season, Jackson has already played for three NBA teams having been drafted by the Sacramento Kings.

At just 25-years-old, he still has time to turn his career around, even if it requires going a roundabout way to return to the league. Entering the league as a prized shooter having knocked down .370 percent of his 3-point attempts in his final season at the University of North Carolina, Jackson’s ability to stick in the league could come down to him returning to form as a specialist.

Jackson has shot .321 percent from 3-point range for his career, and .306 percent from 3-point range this season.

Following their decision to waive Jackson, Oklahoma City used their open roster spot to sign guard Justin Robinson to a 10-day contract.
