RBC Heritage Classic PGA Tour Betting Picks and Predictions

The Heritage Classic reclaims its usual spot on the PGA Tour in the post-Masters slot on the roster. Last year’s pandemic delayed the event until June and Webb Simpson was an impressive champion when setting a new scoring record for the event. The course at Hilton Head is one of the shortest tests on the PGA Tour with the smallest greens. Harbour Town Golf Links has always set a challenging exam and is susceptible to swirling winds that catch the players out in the tree-lined amphitheater.

Trust Brendan Grace Again After the Texas Open

Readers will remember a couple of weeks ago that I tipped South African, Brendan Grace to win the Texas Open. He started slowly with a poor first round of 75 but his form was progressive throughout the rest of the week as rounds of 71, 70 and 68 saw him move his way through the leaderboard for a finishing position of 23rd.

After the Players Championship, he took a couple of weeks off before the Texas Open to recharge his batteries after winning the Puerto Rico Open prior. A big factor in tipping Grace to win the Texas Open was his proven ability to handle windy conditions given his legendary low-ball flight. That skill was seen to best use here at Hilton Head in 2016 when he won his first PGA Tour title.

He hasn’t kicked on as much as many expected given his four top 5 finishes in major championships; two in US Opens and two in PGA Championships. With that proven pedigree it would have been hard for him to not make the field at the Masters last week but that could focus his mind. Plus, he will have no hangover from four tough days at Augusta National and arrive in South Carolina fresh and sharper for the Heritage Classic. Away from the golf course it has been a difficult start to 2021 for Grace with the sad passing of his father but I am expecting this tough competitor to flourish as the year progresses and land a third PGA Tour title.

J T Poston to Land a First Heritage Classic After Two Strong Showings in 2019 and 2020

J T Poston looks to be trending into form perfectly for this week in South Carolina with several consistent recent showings. The one that really caught my eye was the 22nd at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass where he started with a poor round of 76. He has strong affinity with Pete Dye designed courses like TPC Sawgrass so we know he should go well this week. There is plenty of evidence that the twenty-seven-year-old likes Harbour Town Golf Links with back to back top 10 finishes in the last two seasons. The North Carolina man only win was the 2019 Wyndham Championship since which he has consolidated his career well on the PGA Tour. If he is to win again, this week looks a perfect opportunity at a course we know he loves and BetOnline price of +12500 is a strong look for bettors.

BO Van Pelt Is Much Improved In 2021

Forty-five-year-old, Bo Van Pelt from Indiana has been pinging my radar for several weeks now on the PGA Tour with a series of improved displays. The Phoenix Open is not an event that traditionally suited Van Pelt over the many years of his distinguished career on the PGA Tour so when he finished 30th it was eye-catching. There was the consideration that performance was a fluke or freak given it was the first top 30 finish Van Pelt made since a 7th place finish in the Travelers Championship of 2015.

To be fair he has been out through injury for effectively three years but there was no fluke in his result in Phoenix as a 15th place finish in the Costa Rica Open a couple of weeks later proved. Since which, two more cuts made and a 34th in the Texas Open have consolidated his resurgence in form and now at last we have a venue where he has a proven history of playing well. The quirky small greens and the tight course seemed perfect for Van Pelt earlier in his career when a 3rd place finish was the highlight of several strong showings at the Harbour Town Golf Links. With his current improved form, he will be looking forward to a strong showing this week in South Carolina and a top 20 finish is well within his range.
