NFL Week 3 Weather Conditions (Fantasy Football)

The weather is mostly good this weekend. We’re definitely going to see some pretty strong winds in Kansas City and Buffalo is also up there. Though technically not high enough to have a definitive impact on the game, the weather conditions are almost identical to Week 1 when Buffalo couldn’t get anything going against Pittsburgh. At least this week’s matchup isn’t against a very good defe… – never mind. I saw some chatter about Cleveland and it will be breezy, but it’s not looking bad at all. Other than those games, it’s looking like a great week for football.

Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs

Fantasy Impact: There is evidence that winds in excess of 20 mph start to have a negative impact on fantasy results in the passing game. This is one of those situations where we need to discuss the rules of Fantasy Football that I live by. The first rule of Fantasy Football is ‘You don’t bench your studs!’ The second rule of Fantasy Football is ‘YOU DON’T BENCH YOUR STUDS!’ If Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, or Travis Kelce are on your team, you play them. The weather conditions need to be at least an order of magnitude worse to even consider keeping them out of your lineup.

The weather may actually help Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The handful of targets that Mahomes has accidentally fired off to players not named Hill or Kelce so far this year may now trickle down to forgotten weapon CEH. CEH’s usage in the passing game to this point has been nonexistent with only three targets in Week 1 and none in Week 2. That’s one less total target than Carlos Hyde has in Jacksonville. I know plugging CEH back into lineups may be scary, but this could finally be the inflection point in CEH’s season or at least a temporary blip.

The Chargers offense is tough to project on a good day. The matchup for Justin Herbert is difficult and the weather is far from ideal, but I don’t see Herbert throwing for less than 300 yards. Herbert has passed for over 300 yards in each of his first two games with only has two passing TDs to show for it. With the offensive weapons on the Chargers, TD regression to the mean should hit for Herbert soon. Keenan Allen is still a must-start in this game while he continues to get peppered with targets. Austin Ekeler‘s usage in the passing game has been Jekyll and Hyde, but he should see a fair share of targets again coming off the nine he had last week. As for Mike Williams – he’s healthy and on a heater after receiving TDs in back-to-back weeks. You never leave the table when you’re on a heater! If you have a safer QB than Herbert with as much upside, play them, but odds are Herbert is the best option you have this week so you may have to grin and bear it.

If you want to get cute with this game, find other kickers. Neither Tristan Vizcaino or Harrison Butker have been lighting it up so far this year anyways.
