Packers vs. Niners: NFL Betting Lines and Odds

The Niners will be playing in their first home game after starting the first two weeks of the season on the road, and for the first time this year, the stadium will be packed to the rafters. The Niners are 2-1 SU and 1-1-0 ATS. Most recently, the Niners defeated the Eagles 17-11 at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Packers will be hitting the road for the second time in three weeks, all the while hoping to avoid a repeat of their Week 1 disaster against the New Orleans Saints on neutral territory. The Packers are 1-1 SU and ATS. Most recently, the Packers steamrolled the Lions 35-17 at Lambeau Field.

Bookmakers install the hosts as the 3.5-point home chalk, while the total is set to 49.5 points. Some of the best betting sites have the Niners -3.5 with juice of -120 while others have gone up to Niners -4. The line is likely to oscillate between those numbers until kick-off. As well, the total has ticked up to 50 points with several shops already.

Early public betting according to SBR consensus reports reveals the betting is going towards the Niners as the slim home favorites. This might explain some of the early movements on the NFL odds board.

Packers Bounce Back in Week 2

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers suffered the ignominy of losing their season opener to Jameis Winston and the New Orleans Saints. The Packers were dubbed the road favorites, but they were utterly humiliated in a 38-3 loss. Predictably, the armchair critics and naysayers were only too eager to pounce on the veteran signal-caller, citing his offseason drama with the Green Bay organization as a possible reason for his lack of preparation, intensity, and disinterested play.

Rodgers answered his critics in the best way he could, by delivering a 35-17 beatdown on the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field in Week 2. The Packers lit up their home stadium to the delight of fans, and Aaron Rodgers connected with Aaron Jones for four touchdown passes in the lopsided victory.

The Packers are amongst the season’s title-hopefuls, but the jury is still out despite the commanding win. Green Bay’s schedule was light, to begin with, albeit they split those in the win-loss column. The upcoming matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, however, will give a better sense of where the Packers line up in the list of legitimate contenders for Super Bowl 56.

Niners Eye Third Win

Kyle Shanahan’s side is off to a solid start, winning back-to-back games on the road. They opened their campaign with a 41-33 win over the Detroit Lions and followed with a 17-11 win over the Eagles. The Niners looked good against the Lions – as do most teams. The Eagles, though, gave the Niners a run for their money.

Garoppolo went 22-of-30 for189 yards and a touchdown in Philadelphia. He also rushed for 20 yards and a score. Deebo Samuel led the Niners in receiving with 93 yards and Jauan Jennings went for 17 yards and a touchdown. Garoppolo and George Kittle both have a fumble each. Nick Bosa led the defense with two sacks.

The Niners are also amongst the top favorites to win Super Bowl 56, but how much value they offer bettors is still uncertain. Question marks hang over Garoppolo with rookie Trey Lance waiting in the wings. Separately, the defense hasn’t been tested properly in the first year without defensive coordinator Robert Salah. How well the vaunted defense holds up remains to be seen.

NFL Predictions and Picks

This is one of the best matchups two spots for Week 3 NFL picks as two NFC heavyweights collide. The Packers and Niners have gone head-to-head three times in the last two seasons with the Niners nudging ahead 2-1. The Packers own the most recent win, however, having beaten Kyle Shanahan’s side 34-17 in 2020. But the Packers aren’t getting credit for the win considering the Niners were decimated by injuries. Nick Mullens was the quarterback, George Kittle was sidelined, the defense was unrecognizable and Shanahan was fielding a bunch of replacements nobody had ever heard of before.

Both the Niners and the Packers have a lot to prove in this game. The Niners have the home advantage and the stronger defense, but the Packers have the more confident quarterback and an offense that’s raring to go. This game could go any number of ways, from a total blowout to a tightly contested affair, and nobody would be surprised. In the interest of great television, a close affair would be ideal. Hence, the Packers +4 is the chosen bet.
