NFL Week 17 Betting Odds, Early Lines and Picks

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, there are some wildly lopsided matchups on the Week 17 slate. We track the opening odds, lines, and totals for NFL Week 17, and make our early picks.

As some teams have faded from contention, there are a few massive mismatches on the schedule this week. Four games have a spread of 13 or more points. The largest opening spread of the week has the New England Patriots favored by 15.5 points at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

There are not as many tight spreads, either. There are a couple of games with a 3-point line (Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Los Angeles Rams at the Baltimore Ravens) and those are the tightest matchups of the week.

Playoff spots are still up for grabs, though, so the teams that have even the faintest hope still have that motivation as the season winds down.

Here’s a look at the early NFL odds for Week 17, along with my picks based on the opening lines (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale):

NFL Early Odds, Lines and Picks for Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 2

Raiders (8-7 SU, 6-9 ATS, 7-8 O/U) vs. Colts (9-6 SU, 10-5 ATS, 8-7 O/U)

Opening line: Colts -7.5
Opening total: 45

The Colts have just one regulation loss (plus a couple in OT) since starting the season 0-3, but they won by more than a touchdown in just three of eight home games this season. As inconsistent as they are, back-to-back wins keeps the Raiders in the playoff hunt.

Pick: Raiders +7.5 (★★), Under 45 (★★★)

Giants (4-11 SU, 6-9 ATS, 5-9-1 O/U) vs. Bears (5-10 SU, 5-10 ATS, 6-9 O/U)

Opening line: Bears -6
Opening total: 38.5

Two teams working their way down their respective quarterback depth charts. The Giants scored 14 or fewer points in five of their last six games and are left with Jake Fromm and Mike Glennon at the helm. Bears third-string QB Nick Foles led the team to a comeback win at the Seattle Seahawks in Week 16. Sad as it may be, Foles might give the Bears the advantage.

Pick: Bears -6 (★★), Over 38.5 (★★★)

Buccaneers (11-4 SU, 8-7 ATS, 7-8 O/U) vs. Jets (4-11 SU, 5-10 ATS, 9-6 O/U)

Opening line: Buccaneers -13.5
Opening total: 45.5

Tampa Bay won five of its last six games, scoring at least 30 points in each of those victories. This should be a mismatch as evidenced by the substantial spread, but the Bucs’ 32-6 win at the Carolina Panthers in Week 16 was their first road win by more than 13 points this season.  While the Jets are awful, they have been within 13 points in four of their last six games, while winning two outright as underdogs.

Pick: Jets +13.5 (★★), Over 45.5 (★★★)

Falcons (7-8 SU, 6-9 ATS, 6-9 O/U) vs. Bills (9-6 SU, 8-6-1 ATS, 8-7 O/U)

Opening line: Bills -14
Opening total: 44.5

The Bills have won consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 2- 5 and handling the Patriots in New England puts them back in the AFC East lead. The Falcons have been mediocre but they have lost just three of eight road games, though each of those losses was by more than 14 points.

Pick: Falcons +14 (★★★), Over 44.5 (★★★)

Panthers (5-10 SU, 5-10 ATS, 7-8 O/U) vs. Saints (7-7 SU, 7-7 ATS, 6-8 O/U)

Opening line: Saints -6.5
Opening total: 39.5

Carolina has lost five straight games, though it did get QB Sam Darnold back in the lineup for part of the Week 16 loss to Tampa Bay. The Panthers have been more competitive with Darnold running the offense so they might give the Saints a challenge in Week 17.

Pick: Panthers +6.5 (★★), Under 39.5 (★★★)

Eagles (8-7 SU, 8-6-1 ATS, 9-6 O/U) vs. Washington (6-9 SU, 5-9-1 ATS, 7-8 O/U)

Opening line: Eagles -4
Opening total: 45

Winning five of their last six games has thrust the Eagles into the NFC playoff picture and each of those wins was by a double-digit margin. Washington has lost three straight games, including an embarrassing 56-14 defeat at the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

Pick: Eagles -4 (★★★★), Over 45 (★★★)

Chiefs (11-4 SU, 8-7 ATS, 8-7 O/U) vs. Bengals (9-6 SU, 8-7 ATS, 7-8 O/U)

Opening line: Chiefs -4.5
Opening total: 48.5

The Chiefs have won eight straight and look as unstoppable as any team in the league right now. The Bengals have one regulation loss in the last six weeks and QB joe Burrow just threw for 525 yards against Baltimore in Week 16. Cincinnati has also had five straight home games with a total of 49 or more points scored.

Pick: Chiefs -4.5 (★★★), Over 48.5 (★★★)

Jaguars (2-13 SU, 4-11 ATS, 4-11 O/U) vs. Patriots (9-6 SU, 9-6 ATS, 7-8 O/U)

Opening line: Patriots -15.5
Opening total: 42.5

Losers of seven straight games, the Jaguars have the worst winning percentage and worst point differential in the league and could be just what the Patriots need following back-to-back losses. This is a massive line, however, and New England has won three of eight home games this season by more than 15 points.

Pick: Jaguars +15.5 (★★), Over 42.5 (★★★)

Dolphins (7-7 SU, 7-6-1 ATS, 6-8 O/U) vs. Titans (10-5 SU, 9-6 ATS, 7-8 O/U)

Opening line: Titans -3.5
Opening total: 41

Tennessee rallied for a quality win against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football in Week 16, but it was only the Titans’ second win in their last five games. They will host a Dolphins squad that has won six straight games going into the Week 16 Monday nighter at New Orleans.

Pick: Dolphins +3.5 (★★★), Under 41 (★★★)

Broncos (7-8 SU, 7-8 ATS, 3-12 O/U) vs. Chargers (8-7 SU, 7-8 ATS, 8-7 O/U)

Opening line: Chargers -6
Opening total: 45.5

The Broncos lost three of their last four games and scored fewer than 14 points in each of those setbacks. After back-to-back defeats, the Chargers are suddenly scrambling in a bid for the playoffs and could really use revenge for a 28-13 loss at Denver in Week 12.

Pick: Broncos +6 (★★★), Under 45.5 (★★★)

Texans (4-11 SU, 7-8 ATS, 7-8 O/U) vs. 49ers (8-7 SU, 7-8 ATS, 7-8 O/U)

Opening line: 49ers -15
Opening total: 44.5

Houston has won back-to-back games under the guidance of rookie QB Davis Mills and while the Texans are not to be confused with a good team, they could cover such a large spread. San Francisco looked to be in good shape before losing to Tennessee on Thursday. The 49ers are still in the playoff hunt and can’t afford to slip up against the lowly Texans.

Pick: Texans +15 (★★★), Under 44.5 (★★★)

Cardinals (10-5 SU, 9-6 ATS, 7-8 O/U) vs. Cowboys (11-4 SU, 12-3 ATS, 7-8 O/U)

Opening line: Cowboys -4.5
Opening total: 50

The Cardinals are reeling, having lost three straight games and look completely out of sorts offensively without star WR DeAndre Hopkins. Dallas has won four straight games by a cumulative score of 131 to 57.

Pick: Cowboys -4.5 (★★★★), Over 50 (★★★)

Lions (2-12-1 SU, 10-5 ATS, 5-10 O/U) vs. Seahawks (5-10 SU, 7-8 ATS, 4-11 O/U)

Opening line: Seahawks -7.5
Opening total: 42.5

Take note that as terrible as the Lions’ record is, they are one of the very best against the spread and should have a fighting chance to stay within a touchdown of the Seahawks. Seattle has dropped two in a row, eliminating any illusions that the team might have had about making the playoffs.

Pick: Lions +7.5 (★★★), Under 42.5 (★★★)

Rams (11-4 SU, 8-7 ATS, 8-6-1 O/U) vs. Ravens (8-7 SU, 7-8 ATS, 8-7 O/U)

Opening line: Rams -3
Opening total: 46

Four straight wins have the Rams on a roll and they are going to be a handful for a Ravens team that has lost four straight games and was down to emergency third-string quarterback Josh Johnson in a Week 16 loss to the Bengals. The game might be different if Ravens QB Lamar Jackson could return from an ankle injury.

Pick: Ravens +3 (★★), Under 46 (★★★)

NFL Early Odds, Lines and Picks for Week 17: Sunday Night Football

Vikings (7-8 SU, 8-7 ATS, 9-6 O/U) vs. Packers (12-3 SU,11-4 ATS, 6-9 O/U)

Opening line: Packers -6.5
Opening total: 48.5

The Vikings might be better than their 7-8 record indicates but that may not do them much good while facing a Packers team that is undefeated at Lambeau Field this season and has won five of their last six games overall.

Pick: Packers -6.5 (★★★), Under 48.5 (★★★)

NFL Early Odds, Lines and Picks for Week 17: Monday Night Football

Browns (7-8 SU, 7-8 ATS, 7-8 O/U) vs. Steelers (7-7-1 SU, 6-9 ATS, 6-9 O/U)

Opening line: Browns -3
Opening total: 41.5

Losing three of their last four games has not prevented the Browns from coming into Week 17 as road favorites. The Steelers were throttled at Kansas City in Week 16 but a grind-it-out low-scoring game, like the contest Pittsburgh won at Cleveland in Week 8, could still be in the cards.

Pick: Steelers +3 (★★), Under 41.5 (★★★★)
