Jake Paul

Well, this is awkward; YouTuber Jake Paul is gifted with attention and more than your average professional boxer would gain in a decade of fighting. Now, combat sports analysts like myself are expected to give him a credible breakdown in a contest that only makes sense to elevate the attention of boxing and others' pockets.

Jake Paul first began boxing in 2018, following in the footsteps of his older brother Logan Paul who competed against another famous YouTuber in KSI. On the same fight card, Jake Paul fought the younger brother of KSI (Deji – another Youtuber), winning the contest after five rounds.

The corner of Deji threw in the towel once Jake had landed a flurry of strikes. And although Paul’s first two boxing contests were deemed professional, this is nothing but some words and contracts stating the fact. The level of competition for Jake Paul is non-existent, including his second contest versus former professional NBA star Nate Robinson that ended with a first-round knockout.

By the time Paul fought against Robinson, he is already secured two years of boxing experience, and Nate Robinson had none. It was a wholly overlooked contest on behalf of Robinson’s team, and even the former Disney Channel star in Paul can look better than he is when fighting an opponent with a handful of months-experience.

Jake Paul Boxing Accomplishments

  • Absolutely none.

Ben Askren

Unfortunately for Ben Askren, his decorated career in mixed martial arts and combat sports has been overshadowed by the viral sensation knockout he received from Jorge Masvidal. But before that one in a million outcome, Askren was well-known for his durability, toughness, and achievements outside of the UFC promotion.

Aged thirty-six, Askren’s combat sports experience is incomparable to that of Jake Paul. And taking his background for granted could be the downfall of the inexperienced Jake Paul.

A former grappler at the highest level does not entirely transition into a boxing ring, but the sport revolves around more than just throwing punches. Askren is a former Olympic wrestler and collegiate standout. His athletic ability alone is lightyears ahead of Paul, and before the Masvidal mishap, nobody had managed to knock out the grappling expert.

Ben Askren Combat Sport Accomplishments

  • UFC Fight of the Night (One time)
  • Bellator Welterweight Champion (One time, four defenses)
  • Most successful Bellator title defenses in history (4)
  • ONE Welterweight Champion (One time, three defenses)
  • Former Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Competitor
  • NCAA Division I Wrestling Champion

How Can Paul Win?

Jake Paul has shown significant progress for a mere three years’ experience since his first sparring sessions were offered online. If he has an advantage in this contest, it will be his strength and speed. Not forgetting the amount of money he is worth always transitions to the best-sparring partners and training available.

Unfortunately for Jake, he will have a small window of opportunity to get this fight over with (in my opinion). A complete bum-rush forward, winging power shots, and an overwhelming presence is the only way I could envision the Youtuber winning this contest.

Get the job done and do it fast, because the professional fighting environment is not something you can hang around in with three years of training.

How Can Askren Win?

Askren should anticipate an overly eager, young stud attempting to take his head off during the first two rounds. And minus the Masvidal loss, Askren has fought some of the greatest strikers in martial arts history. Askren has solid durability, the key to him winning this fight.

Now let us state the obvious, Askren’s striking offense is not pretty. He would throw many hammer fists, and off-key strikes with an unorthodox approach during his professional MMA career to close the distance and get his fights to the ground.

Should this fight have taken place in the octagon, Askren would be a -5000 favourite on the betting sites, and that is being generous to Jake. But a boxing contest does favor the Youtuber, that is, until he realizes what a real fight can entail.

Paul vs. Askren Betting Odds Advice

The top sportsbooks' current odds-on Ben Askren has dropped dramatically, as both men are switching between the favorite and underdog position heading towards fight night.

Take a chance on Jake Paul knockout out Ben Askren in the first two rounds? Or should we take a chance on the fighter who has been involved in professional fights since he was a child? I’ll take the former, and if Jake Paul somehow manages to find success, it will be within the first two rounds and boil down to his youth and power.
