Gareth Southgate’s new suit: England boss ditches famous waistcoat in favour of £109 ‘pyjama’ top

The waistcoat may be gone but Gareth Southgate will be hoping his new look can inspire his England stars once again this summer.

With Southgate donning his now infamous waistcoat on the touchline, England reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018.

England boss Southgate has got a new look for the European Championship

The Three Lions will now be looking to go well again at the European Championship and Southgate has a new ensemble ready to make it’s appearance on the biggest stage.

Long gone have the days when Southgate’s most memorable attire was a paper bag stuck over his head.

Now, he’s something of a fashionista and fans may well go wild for his choice of clobber this summer.

What is Gareth Southgate’s new suit?

Southgate has gone for a more simplistic vibe for Euro 2020 but with a modern edge to things.

The man England fans will be hoping can bring football home again will be draped in a lightweight grey suit and a navy polo.

Southgate has now had two distinctive looks as England boss

The light grey colour is a breakaway from a manager’s norm on the touchline while the polo resembles something like pyjamas.

In fact, he’ll be wearing a Pablo Cuban Knit shirt from the brand Percival, of which he is an ambassador.

Fans wanting to replicate the hottest look of the summer will have to shell out £109 for the polo.

Why did Gareth Southgate wear a waistcoat?

Southgate’s side certainly looked the part at the World Cup in 2018 and the dapper boss wasn’t doing badly either.

He turned heads on the touchline and sent social media ablaze while sparking a rise in waistcoat sales after rocking the look in Russia.

The England boss maintained his smart threads despite 30 degree heat in the group stage win over Panama – and it seems his admirers back home weren’t fazed either.

Marks and Spencer reported a 35 per cent rise in waistcoat sales and the reason for Southgate’s immaculate appearance was reportedly down to his grandfather, Arthur Toll.

Gareth Southgate, what a man!

The former Royal Marine was a waistcoat lover who always took great pride in how he dressed – and the same is true for his grandson.

Southgate revealed before the World Cup: “My family are incredibly patriotic, my grandad was a Marine.

“I’ve always been brought up with England being a core part of what we stood for and my life.”

But the look wasn’t cheap, with the full ensemble weighing in at a meaty £264 – and the waistcoat itself was £65.
