Betting on Who Will Appear in 5 Upcoming Star Wars Series on Disney+

Boy, Disney sure is going all-in on their new business model, aren’t they? Churn out as much Star Wars and Marvel content as humanly possible, and don’t worry about anything else!

Never has that been more apparent than today.

While perusing Bovada’s entertainment betting page, I happened upon a selection of new Star Wars markets, each for a different upcoming series on Disney+.

They’re making at least eight more Star Wars shows at the same time!

Bovada is currently offering betting odds on five of them. Each market deals with potential cameos in their respective series.

From this Winter through 2023, the world will be inundated with nonstop Star Wars content.

  • If these next several series are anything like The Mandalorian, I’m all for it.
  • If the shows more closely resemble the last trilogy, I think we’ll all be less enthusiastic.

When it comes to breaking down these Star Wars betting lines, I will assume the former – that Disney will continue taking the franchise in The Mandalorian’s direction. At least the projects to which Jon Favreau is attached anyway.

We can count on lots of fan service, deep-cut references, and respect for Star Wars canon, which is a key factor to keep in mind, since all these betting markets are about whether various characters will appear.

Here are the five new Star Wars shows with betting lines:
  • Ahsoka
  • Andor
  • The Book of Boba Fett
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • The Mandalorian Season 3

Now, before we move on to the betting lines – full disclaimer:

I am not a diehard Star Wars nerd. I’ve seen every trilogy movie except for Episode IX, both seasons of The Mandalorian, and Rogue One. While watching The Mandalorian, I also spent some time in various Star Wars subreddits to make sure I was getting all the references and better understood different characters’ backstories.

So, don’t kill me if I miss some obscure – or, hell, even a large – detail from one of the billion Star Wars video games, cartoons, books, etc. I’ll be making a few picks and predictions, but this article isn’t about me handing out winners. I’m just sharing the current betting odds, passing along what research I’ve done, and pointing you in the direction to place your own bets.

Ahsoka is a spin-off of The Mandalorian, starring Rosario Dawson, who first portrayed the Jedi in the second season of the critically acclaimed space western.

This series is expected to be released in March or April 2022 and will occur during the same period as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Rangers of the New Republic.

Before the character’s live-action debut, Ahsoka Tano appeared in several animated productions.

  • She was introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: Clone Wars and was the main protagonist in the Clone Wars television series.
  • She’s also an essential character in Star Wars Rebels, which offers the most relevant information for this wager, along with her appearance in The Mandalorian.

At the end of Rebels, Ahsoka and Sabine Wren search for Ezra Bridger, who vanished along with Grand Admiral Thrawn. When she meets Din Djarin in Chapter 13: The Jedi, she’s alone on Corvus and still looking for Thrawn.

So, how much time has passed between Rebels and The Mandalorian? She clearly hasn’t located Ezra and Grand Admiral Thrawn yet – why isn’t Sabine Wren with her on the mission to interrogate Imperial Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth in Calodan?

Sabine Wren

That timeline of events is why Sabine is the betting favorite to appear in Ahsoka. However, clues from The Mandalorian may suggest that she’s been captured or killed. In Rebels, the female Mandalorian warrior finds and ultimately wields the Darksaber – which is in Moff Gideon’s possession in The Mandalorian.

Considering his participation in the Great Purge, which resulted in many Mandalorians being killed, is it possible Sabine Wren is already dead?

Remember, in the finale of Season 2, Din Djarin defeats Gideon in a fight and tries to give the Darksaber to Bo-Katan as promised, only to learn that ownership of the weapon may only be passed on through combat.

Doesn’t that mean Moff Gideon defeated Wren at some point between Rebels and The Mandalorian?

I also think it’s telling that Ahsoka Tano was all alone and still hunting Grand Admiral Thrawn, without mentioning saving or searching for her Mandalorian friend.

Of course, it doesn’t really matter if Sabine Wren died. All that matters is whether she appears on screen, even if it’s in a flashback.

Here’s an unsubstantiated leak about Sabine I found at the entertainment blog Digital Spy:

Before the series was even announced, Daniel Richtman (via Twitter) claimed Sabine Wren would arrive alongside the Ahsoka. It’s an unsubstantiated rumour, but one that’s not too hard to imagine. Wren was voiced by Tiya Sircar in Rebels and several other Star Wars projects. However, just like Dawson took over from Eckstein for live-action Ahsoka, it’s entirely possible someone new would claim the role of Sabine.

Ezra Bridger

A leaker named Daniel RPK claims to have uncovered the logline for Ahsoka, which reads:

Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) is on the hunt for the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn in the hope it will help her locate the missing Ezra Bridger, the young Jedi that disappeared with Thrawn many years ago. Based on characters from the “Star Wars” franchise. A spin-off of the TV series “The Mandalorian.”

The prominent Disney scooper also leaked several casting breakdowns for the series, which may provide additional insight into who to expect on screen:

Boka is described as a very strong minded and independent, as well as a natural leader. Boyish looking Middle Eastern, African, Pacific Islander, Black/African American, Mixed Ethnicity or West Indies/Caribbean actors between the ages of 20-35 years old are being sought after for the role.

Morai, on the other hand, is descried as a very volatile and unreliable male character, who is simultaneously complex and shady. There is no specific race or ethnicity listed for the role, but actors between the ages of 40-60 years old are ideal.

There weren’t any breakdowns for Thrawn or Ezra, but there are rumors that Mena Massoud has been offered the role – which he may have vaguely substantiated on Instagram.

More evidence of a live-action Ezra Bridger appearing in Star Wars: Ahsoka came from Rahul Kohli, who made a cryptic tweet alluding to the Rebels character, saying: “I’ve gotten into that Lothal orphan, force sensitive, trained by Kana Jarrus kind of shape. For no particular reason.”

Kohli walked back the tweets and claimed he was trolling, but it’s his quote to Inverse about the controversy that’s most telling:
“I was trolling. I heard rumors that there was a casting call looking for a live-action Ezra that was looking for Asian actors in their late twenties, early thirties,” Kohli explained. “I had watched a bit of Rebels that morning, so it was fresh in my mind. I was going to the gym, and I thought I’d fire off a cheeky tweet.”

So, they are casting a live-action Ezra!

It doesn’t matter which actor plays him, just that he appears in the show. I’d say we have plenty of evidence here to suggest that Ezra Bridger +160 is a smart bet.

Does Ahsoka Meet Luke or Leia?

I found the following excerpt on the Screen Rant blog. It may be worth pondering with Luke and Leia, both priced at +5000.

Fans have wondered for years if Ahsoka ever meets Luke Skywalker or Leia Organa. It would be incredibly emotional and powerful for her to meet the children of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, who were two of the most influential and beloved figures in her life.

It would be fascinating to see the conversations Ahsoka could have with them about their parents, the Force, and the Jedi. There is a great deal that they could learn from her, but there is also so much that she could learn from them as well.

On The Mandalorian, we saw Luke save the day and take Grogu for his Jedi training. Could he make another cameo in Ahsoka, meeting the former Jedi who trained under his father?

Plus, — and this is the cynical side of me talking – can’t you see them crowbarring Leia into the story somehow as a cheap “girl power” moment? Disney loves that stuff, and with the show already being about this badass female Jedi, it sounds like something they’d do. Luke appeared in The Mandalorian, so Leia has a similar, brief cameo in Star Wars: Ahsoka.

“Cassian Andor’s adventures as a rebel spy during the formative years of the Rebellion, before the events of A New Hope.”

Andor will follow the character Cassian Andor five years before the events of Rogue One. Spoiler alert: the show would have to be a prequel to Rogue One since none of the protagonists survived that film! The twelve-episode series is scheduled to be released on Disney+ in 2022.

Very little is known about the plot at this time, but the following actors are part of the supporting cast:

  • Stellan Skarsgård
  • Adria Arjona
  • Fiona Shaw
  • Denise Gough
  • Kyle Soller
  • Robert Emms

I looked up each of the confirmed cast members’ pictures and compared them to the descriptions of Bail Organa, Chirrut Imwe, and Jyn Erso – the only three names I didn’t know from the classic trilogy.

The only pairing that makes any sense is Denise Gough playing Jyn Erso. Nobody else fits.

I’m going out on a limb and predicting that we see either Hans Solo or Chewbacca.

In this series, Andor is a spy for the Rebel Alliance, which will bring him into a wide range of sketchy environments. I could see the producers sneaking a quick Solo or Chewy cameo into a scene at some disreputable space bar.

At +1600 a piece, it’s worth a shot.

Obi-Won is an upcoming single-season show consisting of six hour-long episodes. As you can see from Disney+’s official tagline for the series, it will feature some familiar faces.

Ewan McGregor returns in the iconic role of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi for a special event series on Disney+. Officially titled Obi-Wan Kenobi, the series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where he faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The series is directed by Deborah Chow, who helmed memorable episodes of The Mandalorian, Season 1, and features the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader.

Based on that timeline – 10 years after Revenge of the Sith – the series will take place in the wake of Vader helping Palpatine wipe out the Jedi and establish the Galactic Empire. M

uch of the plot will likely revolve around Obi-Wan trying to hide and protect Luke Skywalker on Tatooine while Darth Vader and his armies hunt them down (unsuccessfully, as we know from the previous films).

Luke Skywalker

Lucasfilm has already revealed numerous cast members besides the two leads. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse will return as Luke’s Uncle Own and Aunt Beru – more evidence that much of the show will feature a young Luke Skywalker hiding out from his dad.

Other supporting actors confirmed for Star Wars: Obi-Wan are Kumail Nanjiani, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie – all of whom are new to the Star Wars universe and playing unknown roles.

After scouring the internet for leaks, here’s everything remotely relevant I was able to find for several betting options.

Princess Leia

This is from a blog called The Direct, claiming that a young Princess Leia has been cast for the series:

Cinelinx has reported that Princess Leia will appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi, serving as the catalyst for the titular character’s adventure. This younger Leia will be played by Vivien Lyra Blair, known for her previous work in Bird Box and We Can Be Heroes.

Leia is said to be the “impetus” of the series and will have a major part in the events that transpire, though specifics remain unknown.

The article continues to hypothesize on how the young Princess will fit into the story arc.

Kenobi has a much closer connection to Luke for obvious reasons, but Leia is just as important to the future of the galaxy, and a dire threat to the princess is something big enough to prompt action from the Jedi Master./p>

What exactly Leia does to get herself into trouble and catch the eye of the Empire is going to be an interesting subject. At the point in the timeline where Kenobi takes place, the twins are only 10 years old, and Leia is far off from her early days in the Rebellion. Perhaps it’s not so much her actions but an encounter with an Imperial that draws some suspicions about the kid’s heritage.

Boba Fett

Boba Fett is the betting favorite at +125. We know that Temuera Morrison, who took the mantle of Boba Fett in the second season of The Mandalorian, has been cast for the show – but that doesn’t necessarily confirm his role.

Morrison previously played Jango Fett, who became the template for the clones made in Attack of the Clones. So, there are lots of characters who look and sound exactly like Temuera Morrison.

Here’s what I found:

According to Kessel Run Transmissions, the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+series will feature additional villains aside from Darth Vader. Kessel Run Transmission’s Corey Van Dyke and Noah Outlaw described the series’ villains aside from Darth Vader as “henchmen almost” and “a team of Jedi hunters that are looking for Obi-Wan.”

Van Dyke continued saying,

“It’s actually a group of Clone Troopers. …Specialized Clones that are hunting Obi-Wan with Vader. We don’t know if this is where Cody comes in, or if Cody’s from the flashbacks, or if he’s hunting them with these Clone troopers. But it is going to be a Clone squad after Obi-Wan.”

There you have it! He will look like Boba Fett, but another Jengo Fett clone like Commander Cody from The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith.

Qui Gon Jinn

If they’re bringing back Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen for this series, I guarantee Liam Neeson makes a cameo as well. It doesn’t matter that he died in The Phantom Menace. Remember, he returned as the first Jedi Force ghost in The Clone Wars.

I found this quote from Yoda at the end of Revenge of the Sith:

“In your solitude on Tatooine, training I have for you. An old friend has learned the path to immortality — one who has returned from the netherworld on the Force. Your old master,” said he told Obi-Wan. “How to commune with him, I will teach you.”

By the time the original trilogy takes place, Obi-Wan has also learned how to become a Force ghost because we see him appear as one in The Empire Strikes Back. This series is set during the period when he’s exiled and would be learning such skills.

We are definitely seeing Qui Gon Jinn in this show!

Jabba the Hutt

Surprisingly, Jabba has the second-best odds after Boba Fett. I did a little research, and here’s what Screen Rant had to say about the issue:

Presumably set mostly on Tatooine, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will likely have the Jedi dealing with the scum and villainy of the desert planet. Jabba The Hutt is very active on Tatooine during the years the series takes place, and his presence on the planet could be explored further. Obi-Wan Kenobi has never been the type to stand idle as people are in danger. Instinctually being a Jedi and needing to help others, Obi-Wan’s interactions with the people of Tatooine would be interesting to see.

Kenobi showed his dislike for Mos Eisley in A New Hope to Luke Skywalker and Jabba The Hutt commonly uses the area for his operations as well. The character appears many times in the original Star Wars Trilogy, which prevents Obi-Wan from actually defeating the villain, he could meet the character or attempt to destabilize some of his influence in the region. As a major crime lord on Tatooine, even if Obi-Wan doesn’t come into direct conflict with Jabba, it’s more than likely the giant slug’s presence will be known.

Reading that, I still don’t understand why the oddsmakers see Jabba’s appearance in the series so much more probable than Luke or Leia.

Will Any of These Characters Appear in the ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Series?

Character Odds Character Odds
Dengar +150 Bossk +800
Cad Bane +250 Aurra Sing +1000
Chewbacca +500 Greedo +2000
Han Solo +500 Princess Leia +2500
Lando Calrissian +500 Luke Skywalker +5000

The Book of Boba Fett is a spin-off from The Mandalorian featuring the cloned bounty hunter teaming up with Fennec Shand. In Season Two of The Mandalorian, we saw Boba Fett help Din Djarin on his mission to bring Grogu to safety in exchange for the return of his father’s Mandalorian armor.

This series has been dubbed “The Madalorian Season 2.5” by some insiders and takes place alongside Star Wars: Ahsoka. It’s expected to be released in December 2021 – with some rumors claiming it will drop on Christmas Day.

In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Temuera Morrison said the series will delve into the character’s past and show what happened to him between the time we see him falling into the Sarlacc pit and his appearance in The Mandalorian Season Two.

“We’re going to see his past and where he’s been since The Empire Strikes Back. Somebody pointed out he’s been kind of stuck in this one place, and now’s the time to actually go back in time and check out his journey and find out more about him. But yeah, that was the advantage for me, was that we hadn’t seen him do much. And along with Robert Rodriguez as director, we were able to sort of introduce him in a dynamic way, bring him back in a dynamic way alongside the Mandalorian.”

Bounty Hunters

If they’re going to fill in where Boba Fett has been since The Empire Strikes Back, it makes sense that several of the betting options for this market are fellow bounty hunters. Dengar, Aurra Sing, Bossk, and Cad Bane are all bounty hunters with close ties to Boba Fett.

Cad Bane and Aurra Sing both helped train a younger Boba, while Dengar and Bossk were Krayt’s Claw syndicate members.

Han Solo and Chewbacca

This excerpt from Screen Rant makes me think Han Solo and Chewbacca make betting sense as well:

During the original trilogy, Boba Fett was not only a working bounty hunter but also became entangled with other events going on around the Galactic Civil War. Morrison’s remark about the show covering where he’s been “since Empire Strikes Back” if taken literally means dealing with his journey to Jabba the Hutt’s palace with frozen Han Solo, and whatever else he was up to during the brief span of time between Empire and Jedi.

Bovada didn’t say the character had to be thawed out and moving around for it to count!

I think we’ll see Han Solo in carbonite within the first couple of episodes.

Will Any of These Characters Appear in the ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3?

Character Odds Character Odds

Cad Bane +250 Han Solo +800
Darth Maul +250 Lando Calrissian +800
Chewbacca +800 Princess Leia +2000
Grand Admiral Thrawn +800 Cara Dune +2500

By the time The Mandalorian Season 3 premiers in late 2022, we’ll know what happened in Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett, which should make this market much clearer to handicap. For the time being, all we can go off of is where the series left off.

In the finale of Season Two, we saw Luke Skywalker save the day and take Grogu for Jedi training, leaving Mando in possession of the Darksaber and inadvertently making him the leader of the Mandalorians.

This will likely lead to conflict with Bo-Katan, who wanted to take the weapon from Moff Gideon herself. I’m guessing much of the third season will deal with her desire to retake their homeworld and whether or not Din Djarin agrees to help the cause.

As for the betting options available, I’ll take a flier on Darth Maul.

Maul and Bo-Katan go way back; they both played instrumental roles in overthrowing the passivist government led by Bo-Katan’s sister, Duchess Satine. Their conflict led to a split in the Death Watch, with half of the group leaving with Bo-Katan and the rest staying with Maul.

Maul also used the Darksaber to murder Duchess Satine Kryze in front of Obi-Wan.

So, there’s lots of Darth Maul/Mandalorian history to explore in Season 3. Based on how the last season left off, I see Maul as a much likelier addition to the show than Ahsoka Tano or Cad Bane, even if it’s just through flashbacks.
