2021 NBA All-Star Game Last Chance Value Picks

The NBA All-Star game is here, and we’ll take a closer look at some of the wagering options that are being offered by the best sports betting sites to see if we can find some last-minute value picks. This Sunday’s game is a little bit different, as the 3-point contest and the dunk contest will be happening today as well. With those two events plus the actual game, there should be a ton of available value today.

All-Star Game Changes Will Affect Props

Some of the props being offered for this year's All-Star Game will be affected by the new rules that were implemented last season. The Elam Ending made last year's game very exciting as we saw players really competing and trying to win, opposed to a glorified scrimmage, which is what the game had become in the past decade. In my opinion, this new level of effort will make it harder for players to put up crazy stats, like the 52 points Anthony Davis scored a few years back.

One of the first props that has value is the under 10.5 assists (-120), which is available at BetOnline. If you look at past All-Star games, the over might have been a good pick with several players getting into double-figure assists. Last year, Trae Young had the most assists (10) in the game, so 10.5 does seem pretty high. As I mentioned earlier, the new emphasis on defense might make some of these offensive numbers go down, and I think last year was a clear indication of that.

In the 5 years prior to last season's edition of the game, several players were getting double-digit assists as opposed to last year where only one player managed the feat. I'm taking the Under 10.5 assists in this game today. I do like one other prop, and it is in line with my thinking that the game will be more competitive. BetOnline also has a prop for "Most points scored in the game" over/under 32.5 points, and I'm taking the under here. Only one player scored over 25 points in last year's game, and that was Kawhi Leonard with 30. I'm taking the Under 32.5 points at -110.

Team LeBron Has a Ton of Two Way Players

At this point, I've been clear that my interest in the game has been revitalized by the added defensive intensity, which brings with it a real competitive game. With that in mind, I'm taking Team LeBron at -3.5, which is where the line opened. I'm taking this line with Heritage Sports (visit our Heritage Sports Review), who has the best available price at the moment (-109). I think that Team LeBron has the necessary scoring power combined with a bunch of players who actually take pride in defending.

As for the Three-Point and Dunk Contest, I have to be honest and say I have no interest in the dunk contest in any shape or form. One thing I try never to do is tell readers to bet on things that I personally would not put money on, and this certainly qualifies.

Now for the sake of this article, I will say that if you gave me a free bet, I'd have to roll with Cassius Stanley at -110 for my dunk contest picks. How are we laying points in a dunk contest? Unless your name is Vince Carter and you're still in your 20's, there's no way you should be laying points in a dunk contest. This is the reason I can't be bothered to bet on this contest. With that said, I can only really look at Stanley, who is about 6'5, but who can get so high up that his Duke teammates used to basically just throw the ball towards the rim and let him go get it. Stanley can really fly. And while Obi Toppin and Anfernee Simmons can dunk, I wouldn't use the word fly, which to me definitely applies to Stanley.

Last but not least, we have the 3-point shootout, which has always been my favorite even to watch. Don't get me wrong, when the dunk contest is done right like the Vince Carter year or Zach LaVine against Aaron Gordon (never let Dwyane Wade be a judge ever again), then I'm all in for the dunk contest. The thing is, that's just two good contests in 20 years.

To me, every edition of the three-point contest is interesting, but I'm sure some will disagree. It's really hard to bet against the favorite Steph Curry, who is -120 for obvious reasons. To me, the best value is with Zach LaVine, who is not only a knockdown shooter, he probably has the most effortless shot in the contest. LaVine's otherworldly athletic ability allows him to get threes off with relative ease, which is important in the later rounds of the contest where contestants tend to look tired. At +500, my pick for the three-point contest is Zach LaVine.
