2021 CDL Championship Betting Preview, Picks and Predictions

As covered in our esports betting in August 2021, the month of August is going to be packed with Call of Duty esports action! With the CDL Championship scheduled to start this Thursday, Call of Duty betting enthusiasts will have plenty of stuff to comb through!

The 2021 CDL Championship betting campaign might be short, but it’s tightly packed and bound to create plenty of excitement! The Galen Center in LA is where the action will pan out! The most awaited event of the CDL season can begin! The first match, OpTic Chicago vs. NY Subliners, starts at 3 PM EST!

2021 CDL Championship Betting Preview

Even though the Call of Duty esports scene is pretty decentralized, meaning there’s almost always top-tier stuff to watch and bet on, nothing comes close to the popularity of the playoffs. This year, the 2021 CDL Championship betting demand should be through the roof.

The tickets are selling like crazy, the teams are doing their best during the final preparations, and the bettors are already at the edges of their seats. Fingers crossed 2021 CDL Championship lives up to and exceeds everyone’s expectations!

Format

There’s not really that much to talk about as far as the format is concerned. We’re looking at a double-elimination bracket with best-of-five matches from start to finish. There are no exceptions for the grand finals and openers.

However, not all teams enter the tournament on equal footing. There are three categories of teams here: Atlanta Faze and Toronto Ultra are already in the second round of the upper bracket. Florida Mutineers and LA Thieves start from the lower bracket round 1, whereas the remaining four teams start from the first round.

It’s a bit complex, but here’s what the bracket looks like:
CDL Bracket Format
As you can see, LA Thieves and Florida Mutineers have no room for errors. If they lose one match, it’s game over for them. Other teams have the double-elimination bracket luxury, meaning they’re not automatically eliminated after a loss. Instead, they go to the next losers’ round. Two losses, though, and it’s game over for them as well!

Participating Teams

  • Atlanta Faze
  • Toronto Ultra
  • Dallas Empire
  • Chicago OpTic
  • New York Subliners
  • Minnesota ROKKR
  • Los Angeles Thieves
  • Florida Mutineers

Most Notable Teams

What are the most notable teams here? Of course, Atlanta Faze is the first name that comes to mind, but what about others? Here are more details on the four most notable teams that will participate in the 2021 CDL Championship.

Atlanta Faze

Atlanta Faze aced the regular season. Simp and the boys won over 525 CDL points and lost just seven matches in the entirety of their 41-match-season.

That tells you all you need to know about their consistency!

Not to mention the fact they ended up as the team that had lost the least number of maps. Just 53 maps lost in the regular season – that’s crazy!

However, Faze Clan’s consistency fell short as the season came to an end. They suffered two defeats on the Stage 5 Major, first against ROKKR and then against Surge. Alarms don’t have to be raised right away, but if Faze falls down to the lower bracket after the opener, things could get ugly.

We all know MajorManiak and Priestahh had to go to make way for Arcitys. It’s been almost a year since his arrival, and it’s safe to say Atlanta Faze did the right thing. If Simp can keep leading the charge, the rest of the pack will follow. Atlanta Faze is a shoo-in for winning this one!

Toronto Ultra

Toronto Ultra finished as the second seed, following a season of 46 matches. That’s right; they’re holding the record! Replacing Methodz with Insight was the perfect move! It immediately reflected on Toronto Ultra’s track record.

They went from two top-ten to top-three finishes since his arrival all the way to the end of the season. They won the Stage 2 Major as well, racking in $200,000 in prize money exactly one month after the roster alteration.

As second seed, Toronto Ultra start from the second winners’ round and await the better of Dallas Empire vs. Minnesota ROKKR. Let’s talk about the former because, as things stand now, they are the likeliest winners’ round #2 opponent.

Dallas Empire

Next up, Dallas Empire. The 21-year-old Reece “Vivid” Drost is still pulling most of the strings for Dallas Empire. He’s been absolutely brutal this season, contesting the league’s greatest in several sections, including Hardpoint KP10M and Control KP10M. He’s been the second-best player on both, behind CleanX on Hardpoint and Simp on control.

What about FeLo and Vivid?
The former returned to his substitute position after Vivid’s arrival from LA Guerrillas back in May. This happened following a disastrous performance on the Stage 3 Major where Chicago eliminated them with a clean 3:0 on the scoreboard. The latter kickstarted his tenure in Dallas with a couple of great performances but never really reached his peak. He had his ups and downs, but so did all of his teammates.

Should Dallas Empire be in your 2021 CDL Championship betting slips? Well, I reckon betting on them to win the opener is a fairly straightforward bet. Minnesota ROKRR will fancy their chances too, but Dallas Empire are the favorites and I reckon they’ll act like it too.

OpTic Chicago

With the 2021 CDL Championship just around the corner, many see OpTic Chicago as a potential dark horse. They’re set to fight against New York Subliners in the opening round. If they lose, they’ll go up against Florida Mutineers. If they win, they’ll go up against Atlanta Faze.

But, we shouldn’t count OpTic Chicago out here. They are the heavy favorites against Subliners; not even Clayster will help them overcome Chicago in the opener. And please, don’t even get me started on the fact that Clayster is returning for CDL Championship…

Assuming OpTic Chicago go through to fight Atlanta Faze, can they go all the way to the winners’ finals? Well, it’s not impossible… though I’m positive Faze will be ready for whatever Scump and the boys throw at them.

Outright Betting on 2021 CDL Playoffs

As expected, all major esports bookmakers are offering 2021 CDL Championship betting futures.

That’s right; they allow bettors to place bets on the outright winner of the whole event.

Here’s what the odds look like just two days before the first round of matches:

  • Atlanta Faze at +150
  • Toronto Ultra at +350
  • Minnesota ROKKR at +400
  • OpTic Chicago at +450
  • Dallas Empire at +550

Everyone else falls into the fairytale category. There’s no way Florida Mutineers or LA Thieves reach the grand finals without dropping a single match. Remember, they’re playing from the lower bracket right from the off.

As for Subliners:
The drama surrounding diamondcon and Clayster ought to leave an impact on their performances.

When it comes to the top five names, though, pick your poison and enjoy the show is the best piece of advice you’ll get!
