Week 9 Monday Night Football Parlay

We’ve got an AFC East showdown as the New England Patriots take on the New York Jets. While the Jets position at the bottom of the division is nothing new, seeing the Patriots struggle the way they have this season is not something we’re used to. They should bounce back in this spot by beating the Jets but the real question is can they cover this spread?

New England Patriots vs. New York Jets

Monday, November 09, 2020 – 08:15 PM EST at MetLife Stadium

Patriots Have No Identity Right Now

Obviously once the Patriots lost Tom Brady, they were going to be in a transition phase. When they signed Cam Newton, the move was met with a ton of optimism due to the fact that it meant less of a drop off in talent, although we weren't sure what we would be getting from Cam considering his recent injury history. While Cam hasn't been great, I'm not sure what you expect him to do when his skill position players are some of the worst in the NFL. Check out our player prop picks by Jason Radowitz for Monday Night Football for more Cam betting.

If it wasn't for how good this offensive line is, the Patriots could be one of the worst teams in the league. Even with this offensive line they are great as indicated by their 2-5 record on the season. To put a better perspective on how bad things are in New England, Bill Belichick gave some clarification as to why the team is so short on depth. If you pay attention to the NFL at all for the past 20 years, you'll know that Belichick doesn't give clarification on anything. He said that the team spent money trying to win Super Bowl titles the last few years and due to some players opting out and money tied up on other guys, they don't have their usual depth.

As for this game, the line opened at Patriots -7.5 and has been bet all the way up to -10 on the SBR odds page. Even though I'll be the first person to tell you that the Jets are the worst team in the league, I can't possibly lay 10 points with New England against anyone right now. Scoring points is a real struggle for New England during this four game losing streak where they're averaging 12 points per game. I'm sure the Patriots will blow the Jets out but I can't put money on them with what we've seen for the past month. Read here Kelsey Kramer's preview for this game and her full game bet.

Both Teams Will Struggle to Score

Most of the top online sportsbooks have the total for this game at 41. I want no part of the full game spread or total in this game. Instead I'll be parlaying the Jets and the Under in the first half. As I mentioned before, the game line opened at New England -7.5 and even though that number is no longer available, the Jets +6 in the first half is. All I need is a field goal form the Jets and I think they cover this which is why I'm also taking the Under 20.5 in the first half. Both of these offenses stink and I don't see any way they score 20.5 in this first half.

The Patriots will win this game because Bill Belichick is so far superior to Adam Gase as a coach that he will simply out scheme him. The interesting thing about this game is that it would be in neither team's interest to win. The Jets clearly want the number one overall pick but if you're New England, what exactly are you playing for? This team is clearly not a Super Bowl contender so I'm not sure what they gain by trying to win more games. I can't see Belichick tanking but it is something for the organization to consider. As for this game, I 'm taking the points with the Jets in the first half and the under.
