Deiveson Figueiredo

Introduction, Background and UFC Career

Deiveson Figueiredo was born in a small city of Soure, Para, Brazil. As a kid, Figueiredo helped his father at their animal farm until he was 13 years old. He then moved to Belem and started training capoeira in high school. At age 16, he met Luri Marajo and started his MMA training.

Figueiredo made his professional debut in 2011 and most of his fights were in Brazil. He went 11-0 before signing with the UFC. His UFC debut was against Marco Beltran at UFC 220 on June 3rd, 2017. He won via TKO by corner stoppage after the second round. The current UFC flyweight champion has wins against John Moraga, Alexandre Pantoja, Tim Elliott and Joseph Benavidez. Alex Perez

Introduction, Background and UFC Career

Alex Perez will become the first 'Dana White Contender Series' alumni to challenge for a world title in the UFC. Perez will make even more history if he wins, as he would be the first UFC champion who joined the company's roster through White's television show. It's easier said than done though! Born and raised in California, Perez began wrestling when he was just 11 years old. He was an All-American in college and that success was the start of his journey in MMA. The transition began at age 19 when he took his first professional fight.

The 28-year-old has a 24-5 career record and he's 6-1 in the UFC, including three straight wins. He last fought at UFC 250 on June 6th, beating Jussier Formiga via TKO in the first round. Cody Garbrandt was going to challenge Figueiredo but a torn bicep forced him to pull out of the fight. Perez stepped up to replace him and he aims to make the most out of this opportunity.

Prediction

Figueiredo beat Joseph Benavidez twice and Benavidez handed Perez his only loss in the UFC by knocking him out in the first round at The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale on November 30th, 2018. We are not using this information to predict the outcome of Saturday's fight but it's worth pointing it out. Also keep in mind that Figueiredo was even more dominant in his second fight against Benavidez.

The UFC flyweight champion is a dangerous submission threat with scary knockout power. It's not hard to see why the UFC odds favor him heavily. Figueiredo's only loss in the UFC came against Jussier Formiga… who just lost to Perez via TKO at UFC 250 on June 6th. Again… it's just information. Perez has to force his pace and tire Figueiredo out. Scrambling on the ground to avoid a quick submission and pushing the pace standing are musts and his wrestling cardio gives him an edge if this fight reaches the championship rounds.
