Let that man cook! Every single player had an impact in the Super Bowl. The best part might be that Wentz was sitting on the other sideline, on the bench, again.

Do you think Howie ever gets tired of fleecing GMs? It’s probably like a sport to him at this point. Every time he pantses another GM he probably puts their stuffed head up on his mantle as a trophy kill. He’s the Butcher of Broad Street. Capstradamus. The Saver of Careers:

Whatever you call him, just call him a 2x Super Bowl Champ.

Take a look at the original trade. Your head will spin wondering how someone can be two steps ahead of everyone else in the NFL.

The deal was a 2021 3rd round pick and 2022 conditional 2nd rounder, which later turned into a first, for Carson Wentz. Here’s how that all played out:

  1. At the 2021 draft, Howie flipped that ’21 3rd and a ’21 1st to move up from #12 to #10 and draft DeVonta Smith.
  2. The ’22 Colts’ 1st rounder, the Eagles’ ’22 1st, and a 6th was sent to the Saints for the #18 pick in 2022, a 2023 1st and 2024 second. The Eagles got more later picks back as well. The Eagles used the Saints #18 pick and a 3rd rounder to trade for AJ Brown.
  3. In 2023, Howie used the Saints’ 1st rounder, which became #10, and a ’23 4th to move up one slot and select Jalen Carter.
  4. Finally, the picks went final in 2024 with Cooper DeJean when the Eagles gave up two 2nd rounders (one being the Saints) and a 4th to move up and get the DB who had a pick-six in the Super Bowl.

Howie is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. My favorite part is he didn’t draft a generational QB or just throw money at a problem and hope it worked. He climbed out of the deep dark hole he put them in and re-built this team over time. There were top-10 draft picks sure, but there were also castoffs that played major roles on this team – Zack Baun, Mekhi Becton, and Saquon Barkley. He stopped getting cute in the draft and knew what guys he needed to win. That takes a high level of emotional intelligence especially after you had already won a Super Bowl. We’ve got a future Hall of Famer captaining the ship and he’s not even 50 years old yet. The Eagles’ average age is 26 years and four months. It’s not like in 2018 when they were old and guys needed to be replaced or paid. This could be the start of something and it’s Captain Howie swashbuckling in the high seas, wading the NFL waters looking for anything he can exploit.
