Clay Travis from Outkick got a 1v1 with President Trump on Air Force One this past weekend. They talked a little bit about teams visiting The White House, and the Eagles and Chiefs were both mentioned as upcoming visitors:
President Trump said that in reality, after the Eagles’ Super Bowl LII win in 2018, some members of the team wanted to visit the White House.
“Well, actually, (the Eagles) did want to come,” he said. “A lot of people wanted to come, including the coach (Doug Pederson) — terrific guy, by the way — but the coach wanted to come. The general manager (Howie Roseman) wanted to come. The owner (Jeffrey Lurie) wanted to come. A lot of people wanted to come. Some of the players wanted to come. And I just said, Just forget it, right?
…
The president noted that not only would the Eagles be coming to the White House. the Kansas City Chiefs team that won Super Bowl LIV back in 2020 will also be making a visit.
“I look forward to having the Eagles, and one other thing, we’re going to have the Kansas City Chiefs after that because they missed their turn because of COVID,” Trump explained.
We knew that Doug Pederson wanted to go to Washington, because he said as much during 2018’s training camp. He was looking forward to going down there, but of course they did not. That was back when Malcolm Jenkins was on the team and the Colin Kaepernick kneeling topic was a big one. But I don’t think we’d had anything on the record as far as Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurie being interested in visiting back then.
RE: the second part – okay? Hasn’t that ship kind of sailed? Most of those Chiefs players have been to The White House. If you were on the 2020 squad but not the 2022 or 2023 KC squads and you feel like you got ripped off because of COVID, alright. Maybe Tyreek Hill is itchy to check out the place. But it’s been less than two months since this most recent Chiefs teams got their asses handed to them by the Eagles, so do you think someone like Patrick Mahomes is sitting there thinking, “yeah great, let’s go celebrate the title we won five years ago”? The optics of this are strange. Go Birds though.
