The Best Time for a Jalen Hurts Argument is the Day After the Eagles Win the Super Bowl

The 94 WIP afternoon show got off to a real awkward start on Monday. A clip:

I went back and listened to the entirety of this. It started around 2:15 p.m. with a rambling caller criticizing Spike for not giving Jalen Hurts enough credit. Then Ike followed the call by asking for both Spike and Jack Fritz to label Hurts an elite quarterback, which then devolved into a defensive back and forth that went off the rails entirely with a Luka Doncic and Jayson Tatum reference, finally cresting 15 minutes later with the barbs you hear in the clip above. They moved it on finally with a FanDuel read and then went to commercial.

It was very dumb. IT’S THE DAY AFTER THE SUPER BOWL! Why are we even talking about this at all? Just have a laugh and move on to the next caller. This should be the easiest day of your entire life. Just take phone calls and laugh and say “go Birds” and talk about the most amazing performance in Philadelphia Eagles history. Talk about bullying the Kansas City offensive line and stuffing Patrick Mahomes in a locker. Talk about Saquon Barkley setting the record for most rushing yards in a season. The fact that they got into an “is Jalen Hurts elite?” argument less than 20 minutes into the day-after championship show is preposterous, like they can’t de-program themselves from the daily routine and switch gears. Everything has to be a debate. For who? For what?
