Scottie Scheffler steered well clear of all kitchen utensils during his Masters Champions Dinner.
The world No. 1 was the man of the hour as all of the former champions of Augusta donned their iconic green jackets to enjoy dinner from a menu curated by Scheffler last night.
However, there’s one item that raised eyebrows when it was first announced and that’s the meatball and ravioli bites.
That’s because Scheffler had attempted to make homemade ravioli on Christmas Day when he sliced his right hand open in a freak kitchen accident.
Scheffler subsequently underwent surgery on his hand and missed over three weeks of action.
It’s why a journalist poked fun during Scheffler’s press conference and asked if there would be a make-your-own ravioli station for his Champions Dinner.
And the two-time Masters champion had a brilliant response.
“In terms of if I was trying to take out the competition, I would definitely do a demonstration, something along those lines,” Scheffler said.
He added: “Maybe they’ll cut up my steak for me, I won’t have to use a knife or anything like that. We’ll see.”
As for the decision to bring in what is described on the menu as ‘Papa Scheff’s Meatball and Ravioli Bites’, Scheffler explained it was one driven by nostalgia.
“My dad’s meatballs made the menu,” Scheffler said.
“I think there’s a meatball and ravioli type of dish that was always my favourite thing growing up.
“My dad, his best meal was always meatballs. So I think that’s going to be one of the appetisers.”
Perhaps those behind the finances at Augusta will also be grateful for Scheffler’s choices given the staggeringly low cost-per-head for his Champions Dinner.
Scheffler’s Champions Dinner this year cost $108 (£84.60) per person.
The $108 figure is the cheapest Champions Dinner since Bubba Watson‘s feast in 2015, which cost $110 (£86.17) per head.
It is a far cry from Hideki Matsuyama’s Champions Dinner in 2022 which was an eye-watering $220 (£172.36) per plate.
The next most expensive was Jon Rahm‘s in 2024 that cost $180 (£141) per head.
Following his Champions Dinner, Scheffler will shift his attention to the action at hand as this year’s Masters tees off on April 10 at 12:40pm UK time.
Scheffler, who tees off at 3:15pm UK time on Thursday alongside Justin Thomas and amateur Jose Luis Ballester, sounded groggy during his press conference on Tuesday.
And he explained his allegeries have been playing up at Augusta.
He said: “It’s raining pollen out here… I get out of my car in the morning, my eyes start watering.
“It’s a little bit worse than normal years. But I feel good, ready to roll.”
He added: “Sniffles aren’t going to stop me.”
