Philly’s Sean Brady submitted former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards in London on Saturday night and dropped a “Go Birds” afterward:

It was a comprehensive ragdolling by Brady, who became the first fighter to finish Edwards in 28 professional fights. He traded on the feet in the first round, landed a clean combo, and then proceeded to take Edwards down over and over again before pulling off a 4th round guillotine choke. It was Brady’s third-straight win after losing his perfect 15-0 record to current champion Belal Muhammad back in 2022.
At 18-1, he’s in line for a title shot at 170 pounds. The tricky thing is that there’s a bit of a backlog at the top of the UFC’s most interesting division. Muhammad is set to defend the belt against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 in May. After that, undefeated #1 contender Shavkat Rakhmonov is next up. So if a title fight is in the cards, Brady would be waiting probably until early 2026. If he wants to stay active, and UFC matchmakers prefer Brady fight again before Rakhmonov meets the Muhammad/JDM winner, then Brady could fight down against one of Joaquin Buckley, Ian Machado Garry, or Kamaru Usman. There’s not much in that for him, but you could sweeten the pot with a hometown fight, and give us Brady as a headliner at the Wells Fargo Center. The UFC hasn’t been here since 2018, when Justin Gaethje fought Edson Barboza. And looking at how well the Eddie Alvarez BKFC fight did back in January, putting an 18-1 Philly fighter at the top of a local UFC card could be a “big fucking deal,” as Joe Biden once told Barack Obama.
Anyway, just spitballing. Wishful thinking, perhaps. 170 is a great division right now. Brady is right at the top with a couple of stone cold killers and Saturday night was arguably his best performance.
