Phillies Bats Shine, Jordan Romano Struggles in a Stressful 11-10 Win

The Phillies bats tore up Marlins pitching today, scoring 11 runs and logging 18 hits. It looked like a safe, easy win…and then the 9th inning happened.

Jordan Romano came into the game not allowing a run in his last three outings. His velocity started to rise, the command looked better, and the Phillies started to get flashes of the Romano that they signed.

The Phillies carried an 11-4 lead into the 9th inning, and all of a sudden, it was 11-10, and the tying run was at the plate. Rob Thomson didn’t want to have to go to Jose Alvarado in the 9th inning, but Jordan Romano left him no choice.

Jordan Romano now has a 15.26 ERA with the Phillies. He’s struck out 7 batters in 7.2 innings and holds a 2.22 WHIP. He simply hasn’t been good enough, which is something the Phillies can’t afford.

Romano spoke to reporters after the game and was as honest as he could be. He said he felt good, he just got rocked.

Today was a good game for the Phillies, so this isn’t going to be all about Romano. The Phillies and Romano need to figure it out; but the offense deserves some praise after today’s win.

Trea Turner had his 4th 4-hit game as a Phillie. Johan Rojas and Bryson Stott both had 3 hits. Rojas has really started to find his stride since playing almost everyday this past week. Rob Thomson has stressed how important consistent playing time is for Rojas’ development, and it’s showing. He’s hitting .345 this season with an .820 OPS.

The Phillies are continuing to capitalize on Harper and Schwarber hitting back to back. When you’re getting production like this out of Bryson Stott in the leadoff, there isn’t many better Top 5’s in baseball, and Harper/Schwarber is arguably the hottest duo in baseball right now.

That one was a whirlwind. The Phillies win again and go for the sweep tomorrow on Easter Sunday.
