Damn I feel for the old man. That sigh which was followed with his loss for words said everything. This is a guy on his last straw. Apple TV+ has won. You could tell in his voice he’s on the brink of giving up. The streaming overlords have finally broken him. He’s fought on the front lines with his union brothers for better benefits. He’s raised his family through economic recessions. Hell he’s lived through seasons where the Opening Day starters were Omar Daal, Andy Ashby, and Robert Person were his Opening Day starters. But he’s met his match. That “Fuck it.” sounded like he was finally laying down his sword and getting the credit card. Hell of an effort from you soldier.
The good news is this guy only has to have this conversation one more time this year. The bad news is there is also a ROKU game in August so have fun navigating that one.

Introducing all these new streaming partners to the olds is a diabolical move from Rob Manfred. They lived through an era where it was just Channel 3, 6, and 10. They had a giant machine where you just twisted the knob and got whatever was given to you. They had no shot navigating any of this. Now Apple TV+ is worth it just for Severance alone, but I have a solution. Do what the NFL does. If the game is on Apple TV+ or Roku then also make it available locally. That’s what NBC did when the Eagles played in Brazil this year and that’s what happens when the Eagles play on Amazon during Thursday Night Football too. These streaming conglomerates need to think of the family. No more phone calls 15 minutes before the game and no more tearing families apart over FaceTime while your dad fat thumbs his password again. If the NFL can do it than the MLB can. Listen to this man’s voice. He didn’t even get to see a JT Realmuto masterclass last night or them play the small ball he’s been hoping for. End your reign of terror for Dad. You win.
