MLB Picks & Predictions for Sunday, March 30: Brewers vs Yankees & Braves vs Padres Best Bets

New York Yankees hitter Aaron Judge

The first weekend of the 2025 MLB season is wrapping up on Sunday with a 13-game schedule. I’m a perfect 4-0 through 2 days of this piece and the Pickswise MLB handicapping team as a whole is 6-0. Let’s keep it going as we get into my MLB best bets of the day!

Also don’t forget to check out our MLB picks for Sunday’s slate. Additionally, don’t miss our 2025 MLB futures guide, which features win total futures, best bets on the MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year, division winner selections and World Series predictions from our team of experts.

MLB best bet: New York Yankees ML over Milwaukee Brewers (-136)

It’s not unheard of to see a lineup pound out 20 runs one day and then get blanked the next day. In the case of the Yankees, however, I think momentum will be the story of Sunday’s series finale against the Brewers. After all, New York’s 20-run barrage on Saturday was no fluke; even without Juan Soto, this lineup is the real deal. Aaron Judge drove in 8 runs on 3 dingers as his team improved to 2-0, while newcomer Cody Bellinger went 3-for-5 with a homer, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Can Aaron Civale slow down the Bronx Brombers? Probably not. Civale went 8-9 with a 4.36 ERA while splitting time with the Guardians and Brewers. Yankee Stadium is hitter friendly especially for left-handed bats, so the right-handed Civale could be in for a tough day at the office. The same can be said of Marcus Stroman, but at least he has experience pitching in the Bronx after joining the Yankee prior to last season. Stroman is a solid starter, so he many not require double-digit run support…. But he might get it anyway.

MLB best bet: Atlanta Braves vs Houston Astros Over 8 (-105)

San Diego on the money line was a winner for me on Friday and now I’m going back to this series for the finale. Now, though, the over looks like the best play. The Padres are going for the sweep with Nick Pivetta on the mound, which is probably bad news in this particular matchup. Braves DH Marcell Ozuna has homered 6 times in 29 at-bats against Pivetta. For reference, no other batter in the league has homered more than twice off an opposing pitcher in their respective matchup on Sunday. It should also be noted that Austin Riley has also taken Pivetta deep twice.

Atlanta is countering with AJ Smith-Shawver, who figures to be a full-time staple of the rotation (if he is effective enough, of course) for the first time in his young career. The 22-year-old has made only 7 MLB regular-season appearances, including 6 starts. In just 1.1 innings of work against San Diego in last season’s wild-card round, AJSS surrendered 3 runs on 4 hits. With both clubs possessing potent lineups, this has all the makings of a high-scoring affair.
