Lyon vs Lille predictions

Hosts Lyon sit seventh in Ligue 1 with 45 points from 27 matches. They have won 13, drawn six and lost eight.

In their last outing, Lyon lost 4-2 away to Strasbourg. The defeat ended a three-match winning streak that had put Paulo Fonseca’s team back into the mix for a Champions League berth.

As for Fonseca, he is serving a lengthy ban for his confrontation with a referee in his team’s 2-1 win over Brest on Matchday 24. Ironically, that was the first match of his team’s three match winning streak.

Confronting referees and bans aside, things have gone okay since Fonseco took over in January.

He has led the team back into Champions League contention, winning five of his eight Ligue 1 matches in charge.

His team’s only defeats have been against Marseille, PSG, and last weekend’s setback against Strasbourg.

Lille, or LOSC as they are also known these days, sit fifth in the Ligue 1 table with 47 points from 27 matches. They have won 13, drawn eight and lost only six.

Lille briefly broke into the top three following a 2-1 win over Nice on Matchday 18. Other than that, Bruno Genesio’s team have had to be content with a place in top five, where they have spent the majority of the season.

This has kept Les Dogues in touch with the top three, which, considering they also made it to the Champions League Round of 16, is quite an achievement.

The European adventure is now over, Lille went out to Dortmund 3-2 on aggregate. But as the old cliche says, that means Genesio’s team can now focus on the league.

Post Champions League life didn’t get off to the greatest of starts, Lille lost 1-0 away to Nantes in their following match. But they did beat Lens 1-0 at home last Sunday in their next and most recent fixture.

A 19th-minute goal by Matias Fernandez-Pardo was the difference between the two teams.

Lyon have only lost three times at home this season. Lille have only lost four of 13 on the road in Ligue 1.

The hosts have a Europa League quarter-final clash with Manchester United on Thursday to look forward to.

He also found the back of the net in Lyon’s 4-2 defeat to Strasbourg last weekend.
