Erling Haaland signs record-long Man City contract among ‘most lucrative in sporting history’

Erling Haaland has signed an extraordinary new nine-and-a-half-year deal with Manchester City.

The 24-year-old superstar has committed his future to the club until the summer of 2034 in what is thought to be one of the most lucrative sporting deals in history.

talkSPORT understands Haaland’s new basic salary makes him the first ever Premier League player to earn £500,000-a-week, while image rights could see him take home a staggering £750,000-a-week.

It puts the total value close to £250million and overtakes Chelsea’s nine-year deal for Cole Palmer to become the longest deal in Premier League history.

Haaland’s previous deal was set to expire in 2027 and included a release clause, raising speculation of a future move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

talkSPORT understands the new contract does not include any release clauses until 2029 – with Haaland tied down until he is 34-years of age.

Reflecting on his new deal, Haaland, said: “I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great Club.

“Manchester City is a special Club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.

“I also want to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my teammates and everyone at the Club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be and now I am City no matter what.

“I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.”

Since joining Man City for €60million in 2022, Haaland has scored a remarkable 111 goals in 126 games, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup.

Having reached 79 top-flight goals in record time, this outrageous new deal puts the striker on course to beat Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260.

Haaland is among the most prolific strikers in world football

Meanwhile, talkSPORT understands City have agreed a £50million deal with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign striker Omar Marmoush.

The 25-year-old has 15 goals and nine assists in 17 Bundesliga games this season, second only to Bayern Munich star Harry Kane.

Egypt star Marmoush is expected to sign a five-year deal as City continue to make a statement of intent in January.

The Premier League champions have agreed to sign Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis and Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov for a combined £64m.

It is also understood City are chasing Juventus’ £70m-rated right-back Andrea Cambiaso as a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker, who is set to leave this month.

City handed manager Pep Guardiola a two-year contract extension earlier this season, before embarking on an unprecedented run of poor form under the Spaniard.

The club went seven matches without a win in all competitions towards the end of 2024 and currently sit sixth in the Premier League table.
