Our NRFI Picks for March 29 (With Reasoning)
After going through the latest no runs inning odds, we believe these are the best NRFI bets today, March 29.
Minnesota Twins vs. St. Louis Cardinals
The Twins and Cardinals are scheduled to meet this afternoon at Busch Stadium! St. Louis edged out the visiting Twins in a dominant performance from starting pitcher Sonny Gray.
Erick Fedde will look to duplicate Gray’s effort this afternoon. Fedde is coming off an injury-shortened season in 2024. The 32-year-old Las Vegas native posted an ERA of 3.72 and a 1.20 WHIP in 10 starts. He was coming off a strong campaign with an ERA of 3.11 and a 1.11 WHIP in 2023.

Fedde appeared in solid form in spring training, with no indications that his shoulder is bothering him. He finished with a 3.72 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across six matchups in the preseason. Look for Fedde to get through the opening frame untouched.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Twins opt to give Joe Ryan the starting nod at Busch Stadium. Ryan is on the heels of a sharp year with a 3.60 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 135 innings of work. He has been a consistent pitcher over the last three years, and I imagine that continues in 2025.
For your best NRFI props today, I recommend including the Twins vs. Cardinals on your card!
Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners
Later on tonight, the Athletics and Seattle Mariners conclude the card with a Saturday night matchup at T-Mobile Park. I’m eyeing this NRFI best bet to include this weekend.
I expect the A’s Osvaldo Bido to get off to a fast start in the 2025 campaign. Bido emerged as a reliable option for the Athletics in his second season in the Major Leagues. He improved from a 5.86 to a 3.41 ERA from his first to second year.
In 2025, the A’s are betting on Bido developing into an ace on the bump. The 29-year-old Dominican native should head to the dugout after recording three outs with no damage on the resume.
Seattle’s Bryce Miller is also a pitcher coming off a standout second season in the Major Leagues. Miller recorded an ERA of 2.94 and a 0.94 WHIP across 31 starts a season ago. He improved from a 4.32 ERA in his rookie season in 2023.

The 26-year-old looked like a Cy Young candidate at times and might be able to put together an unlikely bid this season. Miller is coming off a productive spring training effort, finishing with a 3.77 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. He barely put any runners on the base pads!
In short, add the Athletics vs. Mariners to your NRFI best bets today! This price is very reasonable given the starting pitcher situation at T-Mobile Park.
Our Daily No Runs First Inning Bets Strategy
We provide our reasoning for all daily NRFI picks, but we also want to share our general strategy for these bets. Learning how to approach the market can help you conduct your own predictions!
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to uncover good NRFI bets every day! We repeat the process for all games on the selected day and share the picks that come out on top on this page.
1. Check The Starting Lineups, Especially The Pitchers
You should always begin with the lineups. Check who the starting pitchers are and then go through the latest injuries and suspensions to see whether any of the teams will be missing key pieces.
We usually go to the CBS’ MLB injury report to see who’s out and who’s doubtful. They pull the data directly from league reports, so it’s trustworthy information.
2. Analyzing NRFI Stats
Once we know the most likely lineups, it’s time for a key step of our NRFI betting strategy: analyzing numbers. You need to go through various data points to determine how likely is for the opening inning of a game to end without any runs.
We explore the individual stats of the starting pitchers, we analyze the offensive numbers of both sides, and we also take a look at the total team stats for first inning runs.
Once we have a complete overview of what’s going on, we create our own estimates (in percentages) of how likely it is to see no runs in the first inning.
After that, it’s time to check the odds!
3. Line Shopping
It’s time to check some betting odds! We use two bookmakers that offer daily NRFI betting odds for the MLB: Bovada and BetWhale. We check their prices for all games and turn them into probabilities.
We compare them to our own estimates and when we see good betting value, we place our NRFI wagers!
We strongly recommend using multiple top betting sites yourself for the best results. The two we highlighted above are all excellent for no runs first inning bets.
We might add more options in the future, but we want to keep it manageable for readers who follow us for now. If you join any of them, you should know the market is called “Will there be a run in the first inning?” at both bookies.
