Losing 3 of 4 games hasn’t had a negative impact on the 76ers chances in Friday’s game at Detroit, according to the oddsmakers they are favored by 3.5 points. The main reason for that is the expected return of Joel Embiid to the Sixers line-up, following a one game absence against the Miami Heat. If he plays, there’s no doubt that the big fella will be a game changer here. In his last 5 outings vs Detroit he’s averaging 36.4 points and 12.4 rebounds per game. Philadelphia is 9-1 SU in the last 10 head-to-head, they’ve also won 5 times in 6 visits to the motor city.

Detroit has cooled off a bit after a very successful two and a half months, they are just 2-5 SU over their last 7 games and have lost back-to-back home games to Atlanta and Cleveland. Cade Cunningham is dealing with a minor ankle injury, former Sixer Tobias Harris is questionable to play, as is Malik Beasley who is averaging 16 points per game. The importance of this game cannot be underestimated for the 76ers. They are just a game back from the Bulls and the 10th seed, while the Pistons are 4 games ahead in 7th. With a win here the Sixers get a game close to Detroit and also wrap up the tie-breaker. Give me Embiid and the Sixers to cover here.

Tyrese Maxey Over 27.5 Points (-128)

The run that Tyrese Maxey is currently on hasn’t happened for a 76ers guard since the days of the early 2000s when Allen Iverson dominated the league. Over his last 10 games Maxey is averaging 33.8 points per game on 51% efficiency from the field and 38.5% from downtown. He’s scored 30+ points in 7 straight games, plus he’s cleared this line in his last 16 outings. Against Detroit he’s also been able to clear this line in both meetings so far this season, the return of Embiid could mean a couple of shots less on offense for him, but with the way Maxey has been playing 20+ field goal attempts are almost guaranteed here. He also isn’t afraid to attack the basket, after averaging 5.9 free throw attempts in January, that number is up to 7.3 per game in February. On top of that the Pistons also allow the 3rd most points to opposing point guards this season, so I expect Maxey to do some damage here.

Tim Hardaway Jr. 2+ Made Threes (-155)

Hardaway Jr. is a streaky shooter, but he has had a lot of success against the 76ers this season shooting 45.5% in the two meetings between the two teams. We just saw him connect on 6 threes against the Cleveland Cavaliers who are a better perimeter defensive team than Philadelphia. Philly ranks just 24th in opponent three point percentage this season allowing 36.8% of shots to go in. That number has increased to 39.7% over their last 3 games, the Miami Heat shot over 41% against them in their latest game. With the possibility of Paul George missing this game, Hardaway Jr. has one less elite defender to worry about here. He has averaged 2.5 made threes per game last month on 40.7% efficiency, those numbers are up to 2.7 per game and 42.1% in the 3 games he’s played this month. Is Harris and Beasley aren’t able to go, it’ll be up to Hardaway Jr. to provide a spark as the 2nd scoring option behind Cade Cunningham.
