It hasn’t been forgotten by Bucs general manager Jason Licht that many predicted the Bucs to be in the gutter last year. The over/under on the Bucs’ season win total was 6.5 victories, and there were even more that had Tampa Bay contending for the first overall pick.
The Bucs went on to win their division and make it to the Divisional round of the postseason. While they lost to the Lions, the game was tied in the fourth quarter, and overall the Bucs far exceeded expectations.
That’s what made it all that much sweeter when Jason Licht got to meet face to face at the NFL Scouting Combine with one of the people who had Tampa Bay in the preseason picks gutter.
When saying hello to Sports Illustrated writer Connor Orr, Licht hilariously busted Orr’s chops for predicting that the Bucs would win two games last season. Here’s how the conversation went down:
“You guys have a history?” said someone off camera.
“No, no – we just won a lot more games than he predicted last year,” Jason Licht said. “You had us for two [wins]. I have it hanging up in my office.”
“Wait till I tell my boss,” Orr responded. “He’ll actually like it.”
Licht: “I was hoping that you are going to say that we’re going to win eight this year, so does that mean that we’re going to win…(we’ve got to multiply by….)
Orr: “I had you guys with two and had the Patriots with 11, so the rubric is off a little bit. We need to readjust that.”
Licht: “I’m glad I finally got to meet you!”
The Bucs posted the funny exchange to their social media.

Connor Orr was a good sport about the whole thing. Everyone that makes predictions is going to be wrong from time to time, but the way Jason Licht addressed it was laugh out loud funny.
Jason Licht On How The Bucs’ Season Went
Earlier in the week at the NFL Scouting Combine, Jason Licht discussed how he thought the Bucs’ season unfolded. Their goal was to reach and win the Super Bowl, of course. However, there are aspects of what they accomplished last season that the general manager can be proud of.
“There’s only one team that’s satisfied at the end, that wins the whole thing,” Licht said. “So you’re always, even though you played maybe above what people thought you were gonna do – that’s a great thing – but you’re never satisfied until you win the whole thing.
“So it was satisfying, I was proud of how young our team was, I was proud of our coaching staff, I was proud of our entire organization to get us very close to get us to the championship game. In that regard, I was very happy.”
