UFC 303 Betting Odds: McGregor vs. Chandler Best Bets

The latest UFC 303 betting odds don’t provide an answer on whether Conor McGregor can win in his long-awaited return. The former champ is about to face Michael Chandler in the big card in Las Vegas!

The best UFC betting sites don’t have a favorite, but I’m here to help with this post! I start with a complete analysis of the McGregor vs. Chandler fight before moving on to my predictions.

Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler Odds, Prediction, and Betting Pick

  • Conor McGregor (-115)
  • Michael Chandler (-115)

The latest UFC 303 odds do not give McGregor or Chandler an advantage in the Octagon. The online sportsbooks obviously expect a close fight at T-Mobile Arena.

McGregor has been on a three-year hiatus since losing to Dustin Poirier in 2021. The fight was a rematch after losing to him earlier in the year. Chandler is coming off a losing effort versus Poirier in 2022, so they are even in that regard.

The 35-year-old native of Dublin, Ireland, is the only fighter to have KO wins in the featherweight, welterweight, and lightweight divisions. It’s been a while since he was in the line of fire, though. In 2020, McGregor said he was retiring from UFC for a third time, but it didn’t last long.

Tale of the Tape & Fighting Styles

Conor McGregor FIGHTER Michael Chandler
35 Age 38
22 Wins 23
19 T(KO) 11
6 Losses 8
5’9” Height 5’8”
74” Reach 71”
Southpaw Stance Orthodox
Irish Nationality American

McGregor has a slight height and reach advantage over Chandler. The southpaw has been known for his precise striking ability throughout his career. McGregor has used his favorable reach and power to win the featherweight and lightweight championships.

The initial plan seemed to be for a 185-pound match, but this will likely be a 170-pound bout. McGregor bulked up all the way to 190 pounds during his layoff. Earlier this year on TUF 31, he maintained that he wanted to fight Chandler at 185 pounds.

Chandler has voiced interest in a 170-pound match, which is where this appears to be heading. McGregor has shown a plethora of versatility in his career in multiple weight classes, so the UFC 303 odds don’t put him at a disadvantage!

Conor McGregor (-115)

McGregor is a power puncher who relies on accuracy and quickness, timing his strikes well. “The Notorious” is best on his feet where one solid connection can end the fight.

19 of McGregor’s 22 wins have been via T(KO). When the fight takes to the ground, his strengths begin to diminish. He prefers to stay upright and aim to wear down his opponents with his strikes and leg kicks.

His grappling and wrestling aren’t strong enough to be considered a well-rounded fighter. If McGregor doesn’t bring KO power to UFC 303 after a lengthy break, he could have a rough time against Chandler.

Is his quickness and stamina there? It’s certainly a concern for a fighter who may not be fully prepared to enter the Octagon.

Michael Chandler (-115)

Chandler is the more well-balanced fighter in this fight. Although the 38-year-old veteran doesn’t have McGregor’s KO ability, he still has tremendous power.

In addition, Chandler possesses grappling and wrestling talent. He doesn’t mind winning matches on the mat or on his feet. The veteran has T(KO)’d 11 of his opponents!

Additionally, Chandler has won with a submission in seven performances. However, his last four wins have all been with a T(KO). Chandler hasn’t won via submission since locking in an arm triangle against Brandon Girtz.

I don’t see this fight going to the ground. It’s set up to be a match of power vs. power that likely doesn’t go the distance.

By all accounts, Chandler has looked great in training footage. While I don’t know where McGregor’s head is at for this fight, Chandler looks in great shape.

He doesn’t have the IQ or chin to beat the top fighters today, but Chandler may not need it if McGregor is far enough from his best years!

Recent Performances & Form

Following a T(KO) win over Eddie Alvarez for his 17th win in 18 matches, McGregor took the money and accepted a boxing match versus Floyd Mayweather.

Since losing to him in August 2017, McGregor has three losses in four bouts in the UFC. Always a popular bet on online betting apps and sites, the Irishman has made sportsbooks happy in his latest fights.

The loss to Mayweather might have been enough to disrupt McGregor’s confidence. He was outworked by a superior fighter in Khabib Nurmagomedov, and then the back-to-back losses to Poirier signaled it was time for a break.

McGregor’s Last Five Fights:

  • LOSS vs. Dustin Poirier by TKO – Doctor’s Stoppage (July 10, 2021)
  • LOSS vs. Dustin Poirier by KO/TKO (Jan. 23, 2021)
  • WIN vs. Donald Cerrone by KO/TKO (Jan. 18, 2020)
  • LOSS vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov by Submission (Oct. 6, 2018)
  • WIN vs. Eddie Alvarez by KO/TKO (Nov. 20, 2016)

Chandler doesn’t have the most glamorous results on his resume recently, either. That said, he was competitive in losses to Justin Gaethje and Poirier.

Concerns over his chin not holding up didn’t come to fruition, as Gaethje won by decision and Poirier’s submission. Based on McGregor and Chandler’s latest form in the Octagon, the Missouri native has the edge!

Chandler’s Last Five Fights:

  • LOSS vs. Dustin Poirier by Submission (Nov. 12, 2022)
  • WIN vs. Tony Ferguson by KO/TKO (May 7, 2022)
  • LOSS vs. Justin Gaethje by Decision (Nov. 6, 2021)
  • LOSS vs. Charles Oliveira by KO/TKO (May 15, 2021)
  • WIN vs. Dan Hooker by KO/TKO (Jan. 23, 2021)

McGregor vs. Chandler Prediction and Betting Pick

The McGregor vs. Chandler fight spearheads my top UFC 303 predictions in Las Vegas. McGregor is most likely going to see more money at sportsbooks, but I’m not convinced he’s going into this contest with the right mindset to win.

McGregor KOs Chandler in Round 2 if this fight were in 2017. However, it’s seven years too late for McGregor, who has been busy with business ventures and acting since his last fight.

Money can’t be much of a motivator for him at this point. Also, McGregor has already solidified his position in the UFC history books, so his legacy isn’t in question. I foresee McGregor gassing out in Round 3 and getting tagged by Chandler.

Chandler enters UFC 303 as the more prepared fighter, and it should show in the octagon. Consider backing him in the main event for your UFC 303 betting picks!
