Traitorous Albert Breer the Next Recipient of a Joel Embiid Crotch Chop

Albert Breer is the American football writer who does SI’s Monday Morning Quarterback column:

I’m rooting for the US here but it’d be pretty hilarious if Joel Embiid’s attempt to gravy train a gold medal was denied by the team he abandoned.

Couple of thoughts here. 1) “I’m rooting for the US.” Yeah? Well I hope so because you’re an American. You only pull for France against the U.S. in an Olympic final if you’re a scumbag traitor. 2) Breer is a Boston guy, so of course he’s going to slander Embiid. 3) Joel did not “gravy train” his way to a gold medal. He had ups and downs in the tournament, but was phenomenal in the Serbia game and a huge reason why the U.S. came from behind to win the semifinal.

And 4) the “team he abandoned” thing feels like it’s been abused so badly that nobody even knows the facts anymore. Explained in bullet form:

• Embiid was born in Yaounde, Cameroon.
• He was eligible to play internationally for Cameroon, France, or the USA.
• Cameroon eligibility comes from being a Cameroon native.
• U.S. eligibility comes from Embiid living here since the age of 16, receiving his citizenship in 2022, and having a son who was born here. Both he and his son are bona fide, full American citizens. No green cards, no special caveats, nothing.
• Embiid gained French citizenship in 2022 via a clause that allows the country to naturalize foreigners with talent of “exceptional interest.”
• The French are angry because they claim Embiid verbally committed to play for them, then chose the U.S. instead. This is sourced to French quotes, one from former NBA player Boris Diaw, who is now the France basketball GM. Diaw told The Athletic (now with ads) earlier this year that Embiid “came to us and said that he wanted to play international basketball, he said he wanted to win, and he said he wanted to play for France and he wanted to win with France.”
• Embiid has denied committing to the French team.

So it turns into a “who do you believe?” type of thing between Embiid and the French. They think he reneged and went back on his word to chase an easy gold medal with the U.S. Regardless, Joel playing for the States makes 10 times more sense than playing for France. His life has been split between Cameroon and the United States. He has never lived in France. He is on the record claiming he told French President Emmanuel Macron that he was bothered by the Cameroon/France relationship, his home country being a former French colony. It would be much more of a mockery if Joel represented France while being eligible for two countries that he actually has a connection to. If Boston Breer ain’t down with that:
