Lady Luzon
Tipped at 15/2 on Tuesday before she was ruled a non-runner, most likely due to the rain that fell throughout the morning to change the going to soft.
She should get good ground this time though with only a small amount of showers overnight.
Her two second places in June really point to her being useful at this mark and her fourth on debut behind the now 100-rated Maw Lam also suggests her mark of 69 currently is far too low.
She’s certainly got speed and has gone well over both 5f and 6f, but goes back to her seemingly preferred dash distance once again, which is no surprise for a filly by Pinatubo.
She placed just a length behind the colt Mr Lightside who went on to win again at Nottingham comfortably, to now be rated 93.
Thunder Run
Promising gelding b Night Of Thunder, who did well enough on debut, in 2nd place, before coming back out a month later to storm home and look as though he’d put that experience to good use.
The three-year-old beat The Reverend by over four lengths as the 5/4 favourite and now comes out again, this time as the odds-on favourite.
Has much better form and consistency than the rest of the field and is likely to shorten further.
Tarawa
The Group 3 Meld Stakes is the feature of the afternoon at Leopardstown, a race contested over 1m1f with eight runners.
Tarawa is the 2/1 shot for this joint with Aidan O’Brien-trained Diego Velazquez.
The former, is a great four-year-old filly that proved her form when beating Cairo here in June by over two lengths and could be on the road to further improvement.
Her 3rd placed effort behind Coppice at Newmarket back in September in a field of 12 and her second behind Bold Discovery as three-year-old points to a much better chance now, with the betting reflecting that.
Gordon Grey
It’s the Betfred Ladies’ Derby Handicap for female amateur jockeys at Epsom and there’s one horse that stands out among the rest to put this well and truly to bed under Miss Megan Jordan.
She takes off 3lb with her claim which will help the favourite who’s got possibly the most consistent form of the lot.
All his second and first place finishes have come in his last seven races, including a close second at Chester last month.
That course has parallels with Epsom being a sharp left handed track that’s often tricky to win at, but he held to second well in testing ground and should add to his win at Pontefract with a great record over 1m4f.
The grey has bounced back up to the same mark he was in January and shouldn’t be discounted for having the shorter price.
