The John Deere Classic betting preview

Traditionally the final tournament on the PGA Tour before the Open, this event has been moved forward a week in the schedule since the DP World Tour’s Scottish Open became a co-sanctioned tournament with the PGA Tour.

It has, however, retained its status as an Open qualifying tournament so, in addition to the glory of winning this week, two spots are available at Royal Troon for the highest finishers who make the cut and are not already exempt.

TPC Deere Run is a par-71 set at around 7,300 yards and it is not a tough test from the tee.

Instead, the tournament is won with high-quality approaches and a hot putter.

A key element to the test is that there are significant elevation changes that are somewhat reminiscent of Augusta National.

Who will prevail this week? Let’s find out.

The John Deere Classic betting tips

Find my best picks for the John Deere Classic below.

🏌️‍♂️ Jordan Spieth each way

The youngster Davis Thompson is an interesting prospect, one who very nearly won The American Express last year and has finished second twice this year including last week.

But he’s a shorter price than Jordan Spieth and price is the key to this pick.

Clearly you cannot always talk of form being temporary and class being permanent. There always comes a point when that becomes outdated and a golfer is past their classy best.

But Spieth is still a young man and when he has played this tournament as a professional he has won in 2013 and 2015, and finished seventh in 2014.

If he was up against a strong field this week we’d be wary but the top end of the market should not scare him at all.

SpreadEx are offering 22/1 each way and we shouldn’t pass that up. It’s the wrong side of 20s.

🏌️‍♂️ Ryo Hisatsune each way

The Japanese 21-year-old is making impressive headway in the game.

He won three times on the Japanese second tier in 2021, backed that up with a solid rookie campaign on the Japan Tour, won a DP World Tour card at Q School and rounded off his first year with victory in the Open de France last September.

Playing a third rookie season in as many years he’s made himself at home on the PGA Tour with nine top 40s in 17 starts and this week is a really good chance to genuinely contend, and maybe even win.

He’s up to it – he finished sixth in last year’s Zozo Championship.

⛳ Bet on Ryo Hisatsune each way at 55/1 with bet365⛳

🏌️‍♂️ Adam Schenk top 20

The American Adam Schenk recorded seven top 10s last year, his best tally on the PGA Tour.

This year he’s only managed one top 10 but this week is a golden opportunity for him to return to the first page of the leaderboard.

He showed some form on his penultimate start, ending the Travelers Championship with a 64.

But the key is that his last three completed starts at Deere Run have reaped sixth, fourth and sixth.
