The Highlights from DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown’s Interview with Kay Adams

A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith were on Up and Adams on Wednesday. Everyone wants to know what happened after the Eagles’ 10-1 start, so Kay asked them:

The domino effect being what, necessarily? Was it Jalen Hurts’ injury? Was it internal strife after Sean Desai was replaced? Do they think Brian Johnson just sucked at play calling and was finally figured out? There has to be a domino to present a domino effect. I’d like to know and Eagles fans would like to know what that domino was. Maybe the locker room just hated each other and the 10-1 start was one of the most impressive feats in sports history.

DeVonta Smith wants Kellen Moore to let them do what they do:

Seems easy enough. Target your two 1,000 yard wide receivers. Obviously to expand on that, I’d say “hey maybe some more slants and shots across the middle of the field over deep shot after deep shot.”

A.J. Brown doesn’t give the most convincing answer that he’ll be back next year, but says that scrubbing his Instagram wasn’t because of the Eagles:

One day we’ll come together as a society and not put a ton of stock in @BosaLuvr69 on Twitter and his 15 burners shopping A.J. Brown. Unfortunately we’re not there yet. I think A.J. Brown might be one of the most misunderstood players in the NFL. Everyone has an opinion on him. You see him animated on the sidelines and people think he’s angry he’s not getting enough touches. He doesn’t talk to the media, he’s deemed a selfish. He scrubs his Instagram because he’s trying to get away from the bullshit, and people think this is him requesting a trade (I was in that camp too). Turns out he’s just a receiver that really doesn’t cause much trouble until people like me and reporters go looking for trouble. I mean we’ve lived through T.O. A.J. is not 1/10th of the headache T.O. was. He’s organizing escape rooms for the team to try to get the chemistry back. We gotta relax as fans sometimes and not react to every little thing. Of course he’s going to say the NFL is a business when asked about the trade. The dude was blindsided at 24 when he was traded on draft night. He thought he’d be a Titan for a long time. If you’re laid off a couple years into your corporate career for a downsizing it would be hard to shake that thought that it won’t happen again at your next company.

DeVonta Smith thinks the media is trying to break him and A.J. up and Kay Adams asks one more time about the rumors:

I don’t have much comment on the media stuff. I feel like we’ve been bashing the Eagles media for the last two months. I’d just be repeating the same narrative. At some point, you kind of just gotta say “fuck you” if you’re an Eagles player. Or maybe their hatred of the media will bond them together and they can achieve greatness.

Can’t ever let a hard time humble you…

I’ve recently become bullish on the Eagles for next season after their two recent coordinator hires. The offense is already talented and I think the Horseface Killah takes them back to the juggernaut they were in 2022. Jeff Stoutland’s resume speaks for itself, with or without Jason Kelce being there. We have the Rookie DPOY and Haason Reddick back. Vic Fangio loves cover linebackers and I believe he’ll find a couple to plug and play. What happens in the secondary, who knows, but Howie and his four draft picks in the top-100 give you some outs. We’ve seen him rebuild teams twice before and the chips were stacked against him even higher than they were only three seasons ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if this team hums next season on offense and they piece together a defense that can get them back to the NFC Championship.
