The Fantasy Footballers: Mock Draft Podcast Recap – August 2024

Tyreek Hill #10 of the Miami Dolphins runs a route during an NFL football game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on November 24, 2023 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

With training camp in full swing, the excitement for the upcoming fantasy football season is at a fever pitch. To help prepare for the fantasy draft season, the Fantasy Footballers dove into another mock draft, offering valuable insights and strategies.

In this head-to-head battle, Jason secured the 1.03 while Mike held the 1.09. The draft spanned 12 rounds in a 10-team, full PPR format, featuring eight starters, two flex spots, and four bench spots. This setup provided an intriguing look into their player choices and drafting methods, making for an informative and entertaining session for fantasy football fans.

Be sure to check out Andy, Mike, and Jason’s tier-based rankings, including risk and upside ratings, in the Ultimate Draft Kit.

Round 1

Jason Tyreek HillMikeBijan Robinson

Jason prefers Tyreek Hill to CeeDee Lamb, so with the 1.02 being CeeDee, Jason’s choice is easy and he takes Tyreek Hill. This is coming off Tyreek receiving a restructured contract in which he will make $90 million over the next three years, with $65 million of that being fully guaranteed. Mike does not need to think about his pick; after a run on wide receivers occurs, it leaves an easy choice of Bijan Robinson.

Round 2

Jason Saquon Barkley, MikeKyren Williams

Mike takes a minute on his next pick to debate between taking a WR or an RB. He decides to go high-T though and takes Kyren Williams. Jason takes a gamble and passes over whom he would like to choose here because he believes that De’Von Achane will make it back to him in the third round. So instead of going with two straight Dolphins in back-to-back rounds, he decides to grab Saquon Barkley at the 2.08.

Round 3

Jason De’Von Achane, MikeTrey McBride

Jason’s gamble pays off and he is rewarded with De’Von Achane in the third round. Then after Jason picks, there is a mini run on tight ends, but Mike’s number-one ranked TE falls to him at 3.09 and he is able to grab Trey McBride with his next pick. Mike believes that Trey McBride will be the best pick in this case because of full-PPR scoring.

Round 4

Jason Mark Andrews, MikeJaylen Waddle

Mike decides to reach against ADP a bit and goes with Jaylen Waddle for his next pick to finally grab his first wide receiver. Jason wants to get the Lamar Jackson/Mark Andrews stack so he grabs Mark Andrews in the fourth, hoping that he can grab Lamar in the fifth round.

Round 5

Jason Cooper Kupp, MikeAnthony Richardson

Jason ends up being one for two on his ADP gambles and Lamar Jackson goes to Team 1 in the fifth so he barely misses out on the Jackson/Andrews stack. He decides that he is going to pivot to Cooper Kupp instead and believes that in the fifth round, he is getting a difference-maker who is only one season removed from having a great year. Mike goes with Anthony Richardson as his fifth pick and hopes that this will cement his two onesie positions (TE and QB).

Round 6

Jason Tee Higgins, MikeTank Dell

Mike does a bit of a rankings check and sees that he has Tank Dell much higher than George Pickens so his decision becomes an easy one with Mr. Dell at 6.02. Jason sees that Team 1 and Team 2 have their quarterbacks so he decides to wait on QB until his next pick. He debates between a few running backs and wide receivers and ultimately lands on Tee Higgins.

Round 7

Jason Kyler Murray, MikeRashee Rice

Jason gets his QB in Kyler Murray in the seventh round and he talks about how Murray is such an easy pick at that ADP. Mike pleads with the NFL to get some sort of news on Rashee Rice about his suspected suspension. He and Jason discuss the gamble that comes with picking him with that suspension looming, and Mike still needs to grab another wide receiver after starting with two running backs so he decides to go with Rashee Rice.

Round 8

Jason Jayden Reed, MikeDavid Montgomery

Mike was torn between Rashee Rice and David Montgomery in the seventh round and he gets to have his cake and eat it too as David falls to him in the ninth. Jason is turning a corner on Jayden Reed and starting to see him as the wide receiver to have in Green Bay, so he decides that he will let Reed fall no further and scoops him here in the eighth.

Round 9

Jason Devin Singletary, MikeChristian Watson

Jason wanted Javonte to come back to him in this round but he goes two picks before Jason is on the clock. Jason only has two running backs at this point in the draft so he needs to grab someone that will get work and be a solid player for his team. He decides to go with a nasty boy and pick up an RB that should see a decent snap share in his offense, Devin Singletary. Mike is then back on the clock at 9.09 and takes a swing on Christian Watson to hopefully capitalize on his upside.

Round 10

Jason Jameson Williams, MikeJaxon Smith-Njigba

Mike debates for a bit before deciding that he needs to go for the home run and grabs Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He falls back on the fact that we need to remember how good these players were as prospects when you get to take a chance on them this late in a draft. Jason also wants to shoot for some upside here in the 10th round and goes with Jameson Williams who he believes should be the number-two target for the Detroit Lions.

Round 11

Jason Jaylen Warren, MikeBlake Corum

Jason needs to grab another running back for his squad and he is debating between Tyjae Spears and Jaylen Warren. He believes that both are perceived backup running backs, but Warren has proven that he can be a dependable fantasy option at this point. He decides to ask Mike his opinion and Mike chooses Warren so that makes Jason’s decision easy as he pulls the target on Jaylen. Mike decides he wants a good insurance option if Kyren Williams goes down so he snags Blake Corum here.

Round 12

Jason Ezekiel Elliott, MikeChase Brown

Mike does not love the upside at the wide receiver position that is left on the board and decides to grab a player with training camp buzz as he takes Chase Brown in the last round. Tyjae Spears goes one pick before Jason comes up with his last pick and decides to grab Ezekiel Elliott to round out his team.
