talkSPORT betting tips – Best football bets and expert advice for Sunday 23 June

Euro 2024’s Group A concludes with two clashes on Sunday night as Scotland go in search of three points against Hungary while Germany and Switzerland battle it out for top spot.

Steve Clarke’s side lost another defender on Wednesday when Kieran Tierney sustained a hamstring injury during their 1-1 draw with Switzerland. The Arsenal man has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.

The Scots will take a win of any kind while Hungary are probably playing for pride after losing both of their games in Germany.

Bet of the Day

Scotland Draw No Bet  @ 37/40

The Tartan Army believe again after a much better all-round display from Steve Clarke’s team in their second game of the tournament.

If you follow the form lines in this group then the Scots should have solid chances of taking the three points they need to make it through the initial stage of a major tournament for the first time.

Switzerland had clear superiority in their opening clash with Hungary, but only just shaded the 1-1 draw with Scotland in a result that could easily have gone either way.

The Magyars are now all but eliminated and need a big win plus a couple of favours from other teams to reach the last 16.

There have been some obvious signs of frustration from Hungary’s players about their predicament and it may not take much for that to affect their performance on Sunday.

If Scotland remain calm and patient, opportunities should arise for them to nick the goal that could be enough.

They will not lack commitment to the cause in Stuttgart but a lack of quality in attack could prevent them from killing off Hungary, which is why it is probably best to play this one with some caution and back Scotland in the draw-no-bet market.

Special of the day

Niclas Fullkrug to score at any time in Germany vs Switzerland @ 9/5

Germany’s Niclas Fullkrug is currently one of the most effective substitutes in the world.

Since his debut for Die Mannschaft in 2022, he has scored 12 goals in 18 international appearances, six of them after coming on as a substitute.

He scored five minutes after emerging from the bench against Scotland and could be due to start Sunday’s concluding group fixture as Germany look to exploit a weakness in Switzerland’s defence.

Murat Yakin’s side are not the best at dealing with crosses as goalkeeper Yann Sommer rarely leaves his six-yard box and the defenders in front of him have been slow to pick up on runs into the penalty area.

Hungary’s goal against the Swiss came from a cross while two of Scotland’s best chances for a second against them came from a first-half corner to Che Adams and a second-half free-kick to Grant Hanley.

Fullkrug is a menace in the air with four headers among his 15 goals for Borussia Dortmund this season and plenty more arriving via crosses.

Longshot of the day

Scotland to win 1-0 @ 8/1

Backing Scotland to win with a clean sheet might take a leap of faith after witnessing some of their defending against Germany, but the tournament hosts were clinical in that game and that’s something that Hungary have been far from so far.

Marco Rossi’s side spurned some big opportunities against both Switzerland and the Germans with their attacking players particularly profligate in front of goal.

Barnabas Varga missed their best chance against Germany when he failed to direct a header on target while Dominik Szoboszlai has divided opinion at home with his performances.

The Liverpool schemer has been unable to influence either game as Hungary would want and the team have struggled without his creative spark.

The Scots are not going to smash a few goals past anyone with the personnel at Clarke’s disposal, but they can win tight games through efficient finishing.

That was demonstrated in qualifying when Clarke’s team posted the fifth-highest ratio of expected goals to actual goals among the 50 teams trying to make it to Germany.
