You can find Shohei Ohtani odds for his on-field exploits at online sportsbooks everywhere. In his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Ohtani is second in the majors with 37 homers, tied for sixth with 86 RBIs, 13th with a .297 average, and tied for second with 33 stolen bases (as of August 14). The two-time American League MVP has yet to pitch for the Dodgers, however. Ohtani had surgery in September 2023 to repair a torn UCL ligament.
But we have Shohei Ohtani odds for off the field, although only one has to do with his preseason betting scandal. That ended with his former translator, Ippei Mizuhara, being found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion, and he is facing 33 years in prison.
Our Shohei Ohtani props are a bit more light-hearted and fun, so I’ll analyze these options and give you my honest opinion. I’m looking for the best value at BetUS, where you can find these props by navigating to Sportsbook > Novelty > Celebrity > Shohei Ohtani > Display Selected. Let’s dig into these Shohei Ohtani prop odds and find some betting value!
Shohei Ohtani to Become a Father
- Yes: +150
Ohtani tries to live a quiet life, but being baseball’s biggest star, especially in his home country of Japan, it can be tough. It was big news in Los Angeles when Ohtani bought Adam Carolla’s old house back in May 2024.
But in February 2024, Ohtani announced that he had married a woman from Japan, and that was it. A month later, he posted a picture (which is now gone) on Instagram of his wife, Mamiko Tanaka.
Tanaka is a former basketball player in Japan, playing for the Fujitsu Red Wave in Japan’s W League, and she has represented her country in FIBA tournaments. The genetics are there for Ohtani and Tanaka to give birth to, and raise, an incredible athlete.
I would recommend betting on Yes for these Shohei Ohtani odds, even though there is nothing public about their relationship since the two were seen boarding a plane when the Dodgers headed to South Korea. It would be similar to his marriage in that Ohtani would make an announcement that a child had been born, and that would be it. But I am leaning towards the Yes side here.
Shohei Ohtani to Dye His Hair Blonde
- Yes: +500
Ohtani doesn’t seem like the type of player to dye his hair blonde, or do anything that is outside “the norm”. He seems very straight-laced, and has looked the same since he entered the league with the Los Angeles Angels in 2018. However, I will say that his hair is slightly longer than it was before. He wouldn’t be confused with a hair-metal rock star from the 1980s, but Ohtani’s hair is longer now.
So for that, I’d put down a small bet on Yes for Ohtani dying his hair, especially ahead of the playoffs. As at the time of writing, the Dodgers’ 71-49 record was tied for the best record in baseball. They are in a tough National League West with Arizona and San Diego on their heels, but the Dodgers have so much talent that it would take a total collapse to miss the playoffs.

With Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernandez, and Freddie Freeman at the plate, and a good pitching staff, the Dodgers should be fine. They’re still the favorites at most MLB betting sites.
It should be said that this would be Ohtani’s first playoff appearance after missing out through eight seasons with the Angels. Maybe he gets a little excited and dyes his hair, and I could see the entire Dodgers’ team following suit. Let’s do it.
Shohei Ohtani to Become a US Citizen
- Yes: +1200
Ohtani is still a Japanese citizen, and when he first moved to the United States, he got a visa, which is pretty easy to get when you’re a massive baseball superstar. In January, US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel gave Ohtani’s dog, Decoy, his own visa:

However, being from Japan is a massive source of pride for Ohtani, who has represented Japan many times. He was the MVP of the 2023 World Baseball Classic, in which he struck out then-teammate Mike Trout to finish the game in the final.
I don’t think this is in the cards for Ohtani, at least not this year. I would avoid a bet on these Shohei Ohtani odds.
Shohei Ohtani to be Given Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum
- Yes: +1600
The Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum is the highest order in Japan, similar to US honors like the Presidential Medal of Freedom or Congressional Gold Medal. The Grand Cordon is the greatest honor a Japanese person can receive.
However, it’s a very tough honor to receive. Only 53 people (outside the Imperial Family) have received the Grand Cordon, and only 23 of those people are still with us. I do think that Ohtani will receive it at some point in his life, but not in 2024.
Steven Seagal or Jon Heder to Become Shohei Ohtani’s Translator
- Yes: +5000
Heder is famous for playing Napoleon Dynamite in the 2004 hit movie, which gave us this memorable sequence:
He is also fluent in Japanese, and Heder played a role in 2006’s The Benchwarmers, a baseball movie starring Rob Schneider and David Spade, but that’s the only connection I can see. I’ll scratch him off the list.
More interesting is Seagal, one of the world’s biggest action-movie stars in the 1990s. Seagal, who last made a movie in 2019, moved to Japan to teach at an aikido dojo in 1974. So, one would think that Seagal is fluent in Japanese. However, Seagal is also close with Russian President Vladimir Putin and has stood up for him publicly many times. Regardless of what side of the political divide Ohtani is on, he would probably like to avoid that situation altogether.
Besides, Ohtani received a new translator in March 2024 following the gambling scandal. Will Ireton works for the Dodgers and was born in Japan. Ireton translated for Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda when he played for the Dodgers from 2016-2019. He’s well-liked in the organization, and for Ohtani’s sake, seems to be trustworthy.
Where to Bet on Shohei Ohtani Odds?
Out of the five options we have in these Shohei Ohtani props, I’m recommending these bets:
- To Become a Father: +150
- To Dye His Hair Blonde: +500
If you’re going to wager on the other options, I would recommend smaller amounts, and the translator wager, I would stay far away from that.
