‘Savage’ Lionel Messi stuns fans with one of the most disrespectful things he’s ever done as Inter Miami win MLS season opener

Lionel Messi has been labelled as a ‘savage’ and a ‘mad man’ after dinking the ball over an injured defender.

The 36-year-old starred as Inter Miami eased to a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake in the 2024 MLS season opener.

But it was an outrageous piece of skill from the 2022 World Cup winner that has sent social media into meltdown.

Having provided the assist for Robert Taylor’s opener, Messi almost doubled the hosts’ lead in the 44th minute where he used RSL defender Andrew Brody as an obstacle.

Messi took advantage of a mix-up at the back, where he glided past Brayan Vera before coming up against Brody, who was on his back with an apparent wrist injury.

But he proved to be no problem for the Barcelona legend, as he chipped the ball over him, before seeing his shot blocked by Emeka Eneli.

Fans were left in awe of what they had just seen, as one X user said: “He turned on savage mode.”

Another commented: “How do you not love watching Messi? The absolute cheek to dink it over the injured player.”

A third added: “My days this guy is a mad man. Wow!”

This shocked supporter messaged: “I’ve seen enough, this earns him another Ballon d’Or.”

And another stated: “This might be one of the funniest things Messi has ever done.”

Another wrote: “The disrespect is crazy.”

Messi then played a huge role in Inter’s second goal, as he combined with Luis Suarez, who in turn found Diego Gomez to slot the ball home into the corner.

Miami boss Gerardo Martino waxed lyrical over the Argentina international following the game, where he said: “I saw him very loose, very fine, with a lot of speed.

“There’s something about him that doesn’t happen with other players.

“He can take the ball, even far away from goal, and he gives you the feeling the play will turn into a scoring chance.”
