‘Tis the season of giving and Patrick Mahomes is in a generous mood.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is currently touch-and-go for the weekend’s game against the Houston Texans after suffering a high-ankle sprain against the Cleveland Browns last week.
But that hasn’t stopped Mahomes going on an impressive spending spree, gifting his offensive lineman over $100k’s worth of Christmas gifts.
The Chiefs’ official X account shared a post that read, “QB1 spread some Christmas cheer by giving gifts to the o-line ,” accompanied by photos of the lavish presents.
The gifts included a Rolex watch, as well as other luxury items such as Lucchese boots, Oakley sunglasses and Yeti coolers.
Another photo from sportscaster Kay Adams also showed a couple of Louis Vuitton packages for the lucky lineman.
Exact figures weren’t revealed, but online estimates suggest ‘Showtime’ splashed at least £100k on his teammates.
“Pocket change for that man. Great gesture though!” one fan posted.
“This is like the equivalent of an average American spending $15,” joked another.
“Best part about being a lineman,” added a third.
Quarterbacks and O-lineman tend to have a strong bond, given the guys upfront are tasked with protecting their signal caller from taking hits and unnecessary sacks.
Mahomes has always been grateful to his offensive lineman, and him buying them festive treats has become something of a tradition.
In 2020, Mahomes reportedly gifted custom golf clubs to the offensive line after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory.
Last year, the reigning Super Bowl MVP went viral after gifting his O-line some custom golf carts which they took for a spin around a parking lot.
The 29-year-old field general signed a 10-year extension with the Chiefs back in 2020 that would last through the 2031 season for $450 million.
Mahomes hasn’t been afraid to spread that wealth, often helping out those less fortunate than him over the holiday period.
In 2023, the Chiefs superstar joined his wife, Brittany, to deliver surprise Christmas presents to in-need children, which included essential winter clothes for an EarlyStart program in the Kansas City area.
On paper, KC have one of the NFL’s best offensive lines in football, but this season they have struggled to protect Mahomes with any consistency.
As a result, Mahomes has already been sacked a career-high 35 times this season, with several games of the regular season still to play.
The Chiefs’ inability to protect their star man came back to bite them in their 21-7 victory against the Browns last week.
Mahomes attempted a pass in the fourth quarter while getting hit by two defenders and awkwardly bent over himself, injuring his ankle.
He limped off the field, and Carson Wentz came in to replace him the for the rest of the game.
Fortunately, Mahomes looks to have avoided any major damage to his ankle, and was a full participant in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
It looks like he’ll be OK, which is good news for the Chiefs, who are in the midst of a pivotal part of their season.
Saturday’s game against the Texans will mark their second of three games in an 11-day span. Four days later, they take on TJ Watt — the last player a compromised Mahomes would want to face — and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
The Chiefs, bidding for an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat this season, are currently 13-1 and can clinch the top seed in the AFC if they beat both the Texans and Steelers.
