New York Rangers ML over Florida Panthers (-105)

Despite being shut out on home ice, we still trust the Rangers. As mentioned, they nearly went 8-0 to begin the postseason, so we’ll chalk up that Game 1 performance to the classic rest vs rust debate. Even still, according to the advanced metrics via Moneypuck.com, New York was the better team on Wednesday night. While that certainly doesn’t guarantee wins, there is one skater specifically that we’re trusting to step up for New York. 

That would be Adam Fox. Admittedly, he has not had a great postseason, but the former Norris Trophy winner is still one of the best defensemen in the NHL. It’s also important to note that while the Rangers may have suffered a multi-goal loss, one of those goals was an own-goal deflection, and another was an empty netter at the end of the game. Game 1 was still an extremely close contest, and we expect another one tonight but, of course, with the Rangers coming out on top.

Under 5.5 goals (-130)

Game 1 had just 3 goals scored and we could just leave it at that. Of course, we won’t, but we do expect a similar number of goals in tonight’s Game 2. Firstly, the argument can be made that only 1 true goal was scored the entirety of Game 1 — the one credited to Carter Verhaeghe was the own goal and Sam Bennett’s was an empty netter. After all, a low-scoring series was to be expected. 

Entering the conference finals round, New York goaltender Igor Shesterkin was the overall favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, and now, Sergei Bobrovsky is very much in that mix. It’s also worth noting that they’re both Vezina Trophy winners, with Shesterkin’s coming as recently as 2 seasons ago. So, expect another hard-fought matchup with more physicality from the Rangers that leads to even fewer goals for Florida.
